4. is she in a solidly democratic district? |
|
I hope she will win she was certainly right about Bush and company. But I'm worried that what happened to her in the primary might happen in the general with some democrats joining with republicans to defeat her.

The district gave Gore 69% in 2000. There will certainly be a significant number of Democrats that will vote for the Republican nominee but McKinney will still win.

and I really would have preferred Cathy Woolard beat McKinney. She would be a great representative. It's a shame she may not have that chance now.

On the first day in front of Congress, she should stand in front of Congress, and her colleagues should individually apologize to her.

to mess with her primary this time? That may be some sort of indication that they are not all indignant and arrogant as 4 years ago.

7. Gee, the repubes dropped Majette like a hot potato.. |
|
Did they have their OWN candidate to support this time???
This is why I have always favored CLOSED primaries.. and I would take it one step further..That you could not CHANGE your registration within a 6 month period before the primary.. First time registrations at the 30 day or whatever threshhold would be ok, but if you are already registered as an R,(or a D), it is highly unlikely that you would have an epiphany at 29 days before a primary...and that would change your political outlook..
It's just an invitation to mischief.

Majette won the primary for the senate seat. Try and get your facts straight.
BTW, McKinney was a lousy representative. She brought nothing to her district. She got no pork. Many Dems will vote GOP instead of voting for her. I would, but I do not have the pleasure of being able to.

has winning the senate seat. McKinney's district favors Democrats. Majette will be facing a more Republican orientated state.

Cynthia McKinney is a far-left nutcase and a disgrace to our party. Her (and her father's) comments about Jews were troubling, and her connections with extremist Palestinian groups are very disturbing. She would NOT get my vote.

I realize a lot of you like Cynthia for her very liberal views and outspoken nature, but you need not be so damning of those who don't support her. Particularly those of us in her district. She is a very poor representative, all things considered. Yes, she is a loud proponent of a constituency that is often ignored. Yes, she offers dissent when it's often rare. However, she is pathetic when it comes to constituent service, acquiring earmarks/pork for a district that really needs it (deteriorating sewer system in metro Atlanta and lots of poverty), and understanding the needs of the community beyond her African-American base.
This district is among the most diverse in the nation, and Cynthia seems to forget that far too often. It also has a very large Jewish community that McKinney far too often ignores or infuriates. She's also well known in the district for skipping her commitments and rarely attending community events. There's more to it than blaming Republicans for her loss. I'm a strong Dem, and I'd like to see her replaced again as soon as possible unless she does a much better job this time around. Expect her to keep being challenged in the 4th.

33. tired charge of anti jewish comments - her victory speech |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 11:53 AM by myahquote
The charge that Cynthia made anti jewish comments is very interesting. She never has - she in fact has said the opposite. True her dad, who I believe is over 70 out of frustration made a dumb comment when 2 years ago on election eve he commented where some of the money came from to beat Cynthia, he should have said AIPAC. Though I will say that some Jewish newspapers in the U.S. are guilty of letting AIPAC or other right wing columnists plant stories with lots of unsourced quotes about cynthia being anti jewish or anti semetic. I think this is only done because the papers rely on the writers and don't have strong fact checkers.
She has brought home significant funds to the district and conducted numerous town hall and training meetings.
As to the sewers that is a city of Atlanta problem, her district does not include the city of Atlanta, that is John Lewis' district. They did not seek federal funds until the past two years, though there is a group in Cynthia's district that is against the proposalso I'm not sure how involved Majette got.
The truth about Cynthia is illustrated by her victory speech last Tuesday it included these very inclusive statements:
We've got to turn around this Bush economy and get the American people back to work.
In fact, while we're at it, let's just turn the whole Bush Administration around and install a new resident in the White House!
My vision for this District includes everyone, but we've all got to pull together to make it work.
I extend my hand in partnership to all who want to protect our values and secure our future.
The children of this district need our help. They need good homes; good schools; and secure futures.
The parents of this district need our support. They need secure incomes; secure communities; and a wealth building strategy that sustains our prosperity well into the future.

Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 12:01 PM by Capn Sunshine
And why AIPAC has so much fear against treating the Palestinians decently is a mystery to me,but they ran a talking points campaign in the Synagogues coast to coast against McKinney. They will be there again, looking out for rightwing interests in this "cause" of theirs.

36. That's my plan this year |
|
Kerry's got piles of money. So do the 527s. But he'll be as useless as a stud horse without a pecker unless he gets majorities (or near majorities) in congress.
There's several house races where my time and money will do more good. That's where my efforts are this year.
