Poll Shows Kerry Leading Among Registered Latinos
Most Reject President's Handling of Economy, War in Iraq

<snip>
Democratic Sen. John F. Kerry holds a strong lead over President Bush among the nation's Hispanic voters, with a majority rejecting the president's handling of the economy and saying the war in Iraq was a mistake, according to a survey by The Washington Post, Univision and the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute.

At a time when Bush and Kerry are running roughly even among all registered voters, Kerry enjoys a 2-1 advantage over Bush among registered Latino voters. Hispanics give Bush lower approval ratings than does the overall population, and the poll shows that the bulk of the Latino community continues to identify with the Democratic Party.

The findings suggest that, at this point in the campaign, Bush is falling short of his goal of notably improving on the 35 percent share of the Hispanic vote he received four years ago, although his advisers said they believe he is still on track to do so. Kerry advisers, in contrast, said they are determined to keep Bush from winning as much of the Hispanic vote as he did in 2000.

7. WEll another interesting factor
Is than over the last ten years the percentage of Protestant voters has dropped from 62 percent to 52 percent. As most of the religious right is Protestant, this is another good signn for Kerry,as he is very likely to get the vote of most Catholics, as Catholics tend to vote for another Catholic regardless of their stances regarding their religion. AMong more educated White males however, Kerry is the preferred candidate

9. Remember Latinos are Catholic.
Perhaps the largest bloc overtaking Irish Americans (the model most Catholic voter conventional wisdom is based on) and easily ournumbering Italian Americans. Black Catholics are unique to the sect as a whole (were polled seperatly as they were very unique voters , would vote Democratic like other blacks 90%) and Im sure old models are out the window.Mexican Catholics are essentialy secular and many religous ones (in Mexico anyway)are nearly pagan in many cases. Their conversion was truely unique and like many Indians involved converting godess worship to Mary.Of coarse the Irish and Italians when they went from paganism to Christianity also converted in many paganisms as well but still things get looses and looser with every new unique people converting.

All that said Kerry will still win the Catholic vote.But for other reasons aside from the historical reasons , frankly Mexicans if they were still pagan would vote even more Democratic I bet (even Irish , whom the conventional wisdom is based, arent as devout and tribal as in 1960).

The most devout wont fit the conventional desription either as they will vote for Bush.

2. I apologize in advance to all our wonderful white male DUers, but
I think the only demographics * has left are white males (and about half of their scared wives)! Wouldn't it be interesting if every other demographic group went for Kerry/Edwards this fall! Talk about 2 Americas...

8. The Hispanic community,
like the African American community, is not buying the * that shrub is selling. They have excellent taste. I wish all ethnic groups did.:bounce: By the way, that's a slam at my own ethnic group, which still seems to be in *'s pocket.
