Standing before an estimated 21,000 people who turned the American Legion Mall into a sea of upturned faces, Sen. Barack Obama on Monday urged voters to help him change the world.

The mammoth rally, in which music legend Stevie Wonder was merely the warmup act, came on the eve of today's crucial primary elections in Indiana and North Carolina.

Obama is competing with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for the delegates in each state in their quest for the Democratic presidential nomination.

"I'm not running just to win an election," Obama shouted. "I'm running to change the country, and that's why you're here as well."

And it was quite an inspiring event. Made me feel sad for folks who campaign against hope. I'm deeply cynical of the process and I am inspired anew by this man.

Pauley was packed that day.

One thing I learned, is if you want something - go for it.

So many of my friends said, "It will be so crowded you will never get in."

Well 2 friends agreed to go with me, we got in, had great seats, went two hours early and made lots of friends.

It was fabulous, just fabulous.

Law intrigues me as well. I just don't follow it like some die hard folks do. I'm studying to be a court reporter so we have to be on our "A" game. I'm just happy that my son is taking an interest in politics without me forcing it on him.

39. Wow! Read this report from an NBC reporter who was there...
The night before...

Posted: Tuesday, May 06, 2008 11:02 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Aswini Anburajan

Since I've been here reporting in Indiana, there's been a lot of talk about 1968 -- the last time it seemed that the votes the state would cast on Election Day would "count."

Last night, in the heavy, almost summer-like air at dusk, was the first time that I actually felt a sense of history. Voters lined up down more than five avenue blocks to get in to see Obama speak, and these were the ones that didn't have tickets to get into the event. Vendors were hawking buttons and T-shirts that read "Change" and "Hope, "with the candidate's face emblazoned on the backs of shirts and cars and trucks slowed down to see what the commotion was about.

The monuments were lit up, and gospel music rose up from the speakers and carried through the air. Rep. Andre Carson, an Obama supporter, spoke to the crowd as it waited hours for Obama to show up. And standing behind the flag and building that could have looked like the Jefferson Monument, you could imagine what it must have been like when those three syllable titans, MLK, RFK, were carrying a message that caught people's minds and lifted their hearts. It was breathtaking.
