1. What made you want to run for president?
I wanted to run for president to make this world work for people again, especially for kids. I think that on all the issues important to your future, there are better options than the current policies. We need to make sure you are getting a good education now and put policies into place so no kid will ever have to bypass a college education because they couldn’t afford the tuition. I want you kids to have a bright future and access to education is critical.
2. I understand that you have been involved in environmental issues. When did that interest start? What have you done for the environment?
My mother got me interested in the environment. She used to take me on long walks to talk about the importance of protecting our natural resources. From her I learned that we need to secure our environment so that when kids like you grow up, you’ll have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink and a healthy environment in which to live.
3. What are the important life lessons and values that your parents shared with you, that you passed down to your children, and that you would like to share with the children of America and the world?
Service is one of the most important things that my parents taught me. When I was younger I choose to serve my country in the military, as a swift boat pilot. Some of you may choose to serve our country by being a doctor, nurse, fireman, or teacher. All of these jobs are a form of public service.
4. What is the most important message that you would like to share with the kids of today?
Your generation is the future of our country. I think the most important message I could pass along is to encourage you to participate in some form of community service. Working together is the only way we will solve common problems and we need bright young people like you participating.
5. Who where you most influenced by when you where a kid?
My parents influenced me most. My father was an army pilot during World War II and my mother was always engaged in the activities of our community. My parents taught me that giving back to your communities is an important part of life. I’m sure many of you contribute to your communities and I encourage you to keep up the good work.
6. I noticed that earlier you were using “No Surrender” by Bruce Springsteen (my personal favorite artist) as your campaign song. And lately you are using “Beautiful Day by U2. Who are some of your favorite musicians/ bands?
I am a big fan of The Boss. I also love the Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Moby.
7. Who is the Tallest President (Abe Lincoln 6:4) are you 6”5?
I am 6 feet and 5 inches tall, and yes, when I’m elected, I’ll be one inch taller than the tallest President ever, Abe Lincoln.
8. What can Kids for Kerry do to help John Kerry become the 44th President?
First, thank you for all you’ve done already. It is wonderful to see young people active and engaged in politics. If you can keep doing what you’re doing, talking about the need for change and spreading the word to your peers and your parents, those efforts could bring us over the top. Talk to your parents at the dinner table. Talk to your friends and teachers in school. Stay active and engaged in the process and don’t forget to get out there and serve our country!
