Instead of a gas holiday tax, or what ever it is being called. |
|
Can the president, congress, or somebody implement a price ceiling on gas prices? So this way the oil company cannot charge the difference to the consumer, and the highway fund don't get touched!

1. We're at war? Right? That's what this administration keeps telling us. Well in WWII and WWI, there were resource boards that controlled prices and rationed goods accordingly. Again, we have a government that has sold their supporters on the falsehood that we can wage war with no sacrifice and no consequences.
2. Instead of a gas tax holiday, pay every hybrid buyer a $1,000 tax credit on top of whatever they're already getting.

5. I agree with number one... |
|
but number two is tougher. If you can afford to buy a hybrid (which I can't until after I pay off my house and student loans), then do you really need the tax credit? However, I agree that good practice should be rewarded...
I'm glad I'm not running the country, sometimes I can't even decide what color lip gloss to wear...

You know some hybrids are built for performance, not economy, right? Lexus has a few that get average fuel economy at best.
How about a tax break for people that live close to their jobs? People that don't own cars? People that ride the bus X times a week, etc etc etc.

7. I could support tax credits for bus and subway passes |
|
I could also support credits for cars that exceed 30/35 (like the 5-speed civic, the new VW Diesel) that aren't hybrids, but get high mileage.
The point is that instead of a tax holiday, we should consider heavily encouraging lower usage.

Note that what I drive is irrelevant to what I think the government should reward.

4. Not unless you want to see a massive drop in the supply overnight |
|
Rationing, lines at stations, etc. I did not live through the 1970s oil crisis and I can do without my politicians trying to recreate another one.

10. They might also release some of the strategic oil reserves |
|
they're holding. Just during the summer months. But really, we have to simply discourage consumption.
