How are military votes secured/counted?

I am wondering, with the recent news that the military is shifting away from Commander Codpiece, exactly how are military votes secured...ie how are we guaranteed that their votes will be counted CORRECTLY?

1. they are simply absentee ballots

they get mailed to the home state to be counted.

2. Troops have voiced serious concerns, massive problems

that may not get sorted out in time cuz military brass have dragged their feet.

"The signs are worrisome, says Rep. Ney, R-Ohio, one of the authors of the 2002 Help America Vote Act, a law designed to fix problems that became evident in the 2000 election. He said troops in Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf voiced concerns to him during a recent trip. “They are at war, and they want that vote to count,” Ney says. “It’s scary, because it’s just not going the way it should.”
