Do Lieberman and McCain want Bush out?
Edited on Thu Jul-22-04 06:59 PM by ALago1
Obviously I would think that Joe L. wants Bush out, but on CNN, shortly after the 9/11 commission released its report, McCain held a press conference with Lieberman stating that they would set up a congressional committee on terrorism and word toward implementing the changes cited by the commission.

What struck me was how both mentioned that we might be approaching "a lame duck session" and commented that the would be able to use their time as a lame-duck congress to begin implementing the changes.

It was almost as if they were implicitly telling their audience to vote Bush out if they want better protection against terrorism.

Perhaps I'm reading too much into a selection of their speeches.

Anyone else see this press conference?

4. They were using the word "lame duck" in reference to Congress
Any Congress that meets after the election and before the next Congress is sworn in is called a "lame duck" Congress.

I think that Lieberman and McCain teaming up has nothing to do with Bush and everything to do with Lieberman's and McCain's desire to implement the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission in a bipartisan fashion. Lieberman and McCain have previously teamed up in the war resolution and, if I'm not mistaken, on creating the department of homeland security. Their foreign policy views are very similar.
