A Dangerous Oversimplifaction....
During his speech to the Urban League George Bush said the terrorists "hate us for our freedoms". This is a dangerous oversimplification. Terrorism is never justified... Woe and behold the man or woman that has innocent blood on their hands...

But the terrorists have legitimate grievances.... Some we can address and some we can't... They hate us because we prop up authoritarian regimes.... They hate us because we ignore the plight of the Palestinians... As a personal point, as a supporter of Israel it is in their interest to reach a viable peace with the Palestinians because of demographic trends... There are a lot more Arabs and Palestinians in the Middle East then than there are Israelis... A two state solution is not only moral, it is prudent....

We need a weed and seed approach to terrorism... We need to fight the terrorists while addressing the conditions that give rise to them.....

1. that is one of the most ridiculous things
that Bush keeps spouting and there's a long list to choose from ... as David Cross says on his latest CD, if the terrorists really hated us for our freedoms, the Netherlands would be fucking dust

3. If Bush
Was so great at fighting terrorism, the city of Fallujah would not today be a de facto terrorist city-state where clerics impose sharia while Marines watch from the outskirts of town.

4. Did you watch Bill Maher on Larry King last night? He talked about this
very eloquently and it was funny!
We need more Maher, less Bush.

Bush believes in religion hubris (not literal but that was the implication) guiding his policies just like guiding it by reading chicken entrails.
Maher said he prefers the "compass people" who believe in rationality and science.

6. I love Bill Maher
He's very left wing, but does have diverging viewpoints, such as his sympathy for Israel, or rather his refusal to demonize the Israelis and deify the Palestinians.

9. I watched him and he was great! Right on the money
with almost everything he said. Larry let him talk too! And the callers asked good questions.

7. Perhaps they hate us because
they believe that Corporate Judeo/Christianity is a threat to their culture and religious freedom.

But that's an unfounded belief, right? When did America ever force its culture or religion on any other people?

:puke:

Well, I tried to hold it in. Really, I did!
