Media find DNC restroom facilities lacking
Media find DNC restroom facilities lacking

BRIAN JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer
Saturday, July 24, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(07-24) 15:01 PDT BOSTON (AP) --

Media members, already perturbed by long security lines, may find themselves waiting in line for something nearly as important.

As the majority of the print reporters arrived Saturday at the FleetCenter for the Democratic National Convention, tongues clucked when they saw the restroom facilities that they will be using for the next week.

Twenty portable restrooms, like those used on construction sites, are lined up in front of the media pavilion to service nearly 1,200 members of the print media who will be working around the clock. That's about 60 serious coffee-drinkers per toilet.

"That's absurd," said Jim Drinkard, a political reporter for USA Today, when he heard of the ratio of toilets per media member. "This is not the type of planning you'd expect out of someone trying to be a good host."

Uh oh, the media is going to get upset if the DNC doesn't fix the potty situation.

4. Oy vey!
What's this going to be called? Pottygate?

Isn't the Fleet Center a major arena with facilities for 10,000 to 15, 000? Can't these people piss like sports fans? Are they not allowed to use the toilets that are designed for thousands at a time?

6. Actually, that's a better ratio than most women have at concerts, plays,
and other public events. Before theater owners decided to do something about the female toilet situation, after years of complaining, it wasn't unusual for 500 to 1,000 women at an intermission to try, in 15 minutes, to go to the bathroom by using 10 to 20 toilets. In some theaters, that situation still exists. Even the new, improved, or remodeled theaters, don't give a much better ratio.

And there's a time limit on those situations! Add to that the extra time it takes for a woman to go to the bathroom (she has to pull down stuff, as opposed to, well, you know), and the impossibility of the situation becomes evident.

Welcome to my (female) world. The women media will probably not find this situation too different from what they normally find; in fact, they'll be glad that the media aren't all women, since the men will take less time.

7. Yeah, and the men will
piss all over the seats, and the women will have to take the time to wipe them off so they can sit down.

8. Do they have to poop that often?
Sorry, but 60 coffee-drinkers per toilet... I mean, I tend to drink a lot during the day (coffee, tea, whatever has caffeine) but I don't go to the bathroom every hour. I suppose it's not a great ratio, but puh-leeze. The Ritz-Carlton this ain't.

9. They'd write negative stuff anyway.
The DNC could provide them with a thousand bathrooms with gold-plated faucets and fur-covered toilet seats and they's still be snide and snarky because the Bush Regime totally owns the corporate media. So I say to hell with 'em; let them try to get by with a few stinky porta-potties. Anyhow, wouldn't it be fun if Tucker Carlson and Bob Novakula got arrested for peeing in an alley?

Wow. Now the lazy press has a story to feature. How the media only has 20 porto-toilets.

these mediawhores are so disappointed there won't be any police pickets to write about that they had to find something to whinny about. Here is a thought, guys. You are REPORTERS. So go REPORT. We literally don't give a shit if you have a pot to piss in or not. And if you don't we certainly don't wish to hear about it. Maybe you should schedule a flight to Iraq and report on the status of the toilet facilities there if you are so interested in potty news.
