Campaign finance question? |
|
I have heard 2 different things.
I read in the paper today that individuals can give a presidential candidate 2,000 during a primary and 2,000 during the general election. If that is true - why are people saying Kerry can't except donations after he is nominated.
Does the 2,000 during the general election assume Kerry does not take the $75 million?

1. Kerry must take the $75 million. |

After the Democratic convention, Kerry can only use public funds. Same for Bush after the Republican Convention. However, one can still contribute to the DNC/like-groups that are working to put Kerry in the WH.

2. But that leads me to 2 questions: |
|
1) can Kerry opt out of the public funds as he did during the primaries? 2) if he cannot, then Bush cannot, right? So Bush would also be limited to spending $75 million.
