Bush Bashing Banned in Boston?
It's just a hint, but an AP article found on Yahoo may reveal a bit of what we'll hear in Boston:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040726/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_convention_rdp&cid=694&ncid=716

I think it's one of the most unified parties we've had in recent history," added New Jersey Rep. Bob Menendez, who will speak to the delegates on Monday night. "It's a coalescence both against the president's policies ... and it's also a very strong sense of purpose of taking the country in a new direction."

It was the latter that Kerry's convention scriptwriters wanted to accentuate. If Bush-bashing wasn't exactly banned in Boston for the week, convention officials said it had been relegated to the rhetorical margins.

It was a strategy dictated in part by polls showing that Kerry's Democratic base is already solidly behind him and that the relatively small portion of the electorate that remains undecided wants to hear more about him and his plans for the future.

So, Kerry and the Dems will define why we should vote for Kerry, as opposed to why we shouldn't vote for Bush. I hope that means that we don't get four days of DLCisms about how we're just like Republicans but much nicer.

1. have you seen the speaker list?
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 10:41 PM by JohnKleeb
far from a DLCer list of course we have some DLC members on the list but I personally think that Jennifer Granholm and Mark Warner are good speakers, speakers range from a 13 year old founder of kids for Kerry to Nancy Pelosi, and others.

2. I watched a lot of that on c-span today and Gov
Bill Richardson said .."don't worry we'll have some bush bashing" or something to that effect and everyone laughed.

I like how they are doing things differently this time..from the stage of the convention to neighborhood meetings.

It's like everyone wants to win as badly as we do.

3. Good
Six days of "We Hate Bush!" is not going to get anywhere. People need a reason to vote for someone other than "The other guy sucks."

4. There's criticism of Bush's policies and then there's childish insults
Doing insipid Bush insults like Whoopi did is only more ammo for the Faux Snooze Network and the shills that parrot the RNC talking points.

We can do better.

Instead of saying something like "Bush is a pussy and a *&$^%% liar who can't even win against a pretzel, you'd say something like "Bush has shown us that he has failed to produce more jobs than when he started..." or "Bush deceived the American people when he used the intelligence reports about WMDs..."

Not that many Americans will be watching the convention, thanks to the media thinking it's more important to show crappy TV shows. Those that will be watching care about the election and don't need to be insulted with anything less than intelligent discourse on the issues and differences between Kerry and Bush.

Save the knucklehead acts for outside the convention at comedy shows on Newbury.

6. More Convention News
Keep it positive, throw in a bit of Kerry's bio, make it leaner and not so much meaner...

7. Kerry today - "four more years of what?"
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040726/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_convention_rdp&cid=694&ncid=716

<snip>

Four more years of what?" Kerry responded pointedly to a group of President Bush (news - web sites)'s supporters who greeted him noisily at his appearance in Columbus.

"Four more years of jobs being lost, four more years of the deficit growing bigger and bigger? Four more years of losing our allies around the world? We know we can restore our alliances around the world and make America strong again," added the four-term Massachusetts senator, running even to slightly ahead of Bush in the pre-convention polls.

9. On CSPAN - The first DNCC Briefing / 3pm Sunday
Kerry's Theme: -Stronger at Home, Respected in the World-

Includes:
New and better jobs
Freedom from Mid-East oil dependence
Affordable healthcare for America
Restoring respect abroad

Gov. Bill Richardson says 50% of the platform concerns National Security and 9/11, the Boston labor issues are resolved so no picket lines!

And for the first time in the history of the Democratic party, we're coming into the convention with a LEAD.
