Iowa Poll: Race in Iowa is a squeaker (Bush 46%, Kerry 45%)

If the presidential election were held now, it would be another nail-biter in Iowa. A new Des Moines Register poll shows President Bush and Democratic candidate John Kerry are essentially tied.

Bush, a Republican seeking a second term, captures the support of 46 percent of Iowans who are likely to vote in the November election. Kerry, who is preparing to receive his party's nomination this week, is favored by 45 percent.

The Iowa Poll has a margin of error of 3.9 percentage points.

Independent candidate Ralph Nader is the choice of 2 percent of those who say they definitely will vote in the election. That leaves 7 percent who are unsure or would vote for someone else.
