My co-worker just told me Ron Reagan convinced him to vote for Kerry
I think he's registered Dem, but he's pretty curmudgeonly. I've never really heard him say anything nice about any Dem, but he's not a Bush fan either. He was a huge backer of the Iraq war, though. He said Reagan's speech made him realize how much a threat the RW is in this country.

Now, he could change his mind before the election, but I wanted to post this potential good news anyway! :)

1. Another convert! I love these daily convert stories we see on DU!
I guess if he is a dem, he really isn't a convert but it is another vote for Kerry!

3. His speech spelled out the typical response of this administration
to any issue of importance...turn it into a wedge issue...

4. I have a feeling
that Ron's speech is going to convince a number of Reagan Democrats who support stem cell research to finally step back over the line to our side. Fine with me.

5. One of the pundits was saying that the stem cell research
issue was a good one for the Dems.

Someone was advising Bush to announce that he has changed his mind on this issue. It would be the right thing to do, but then of course Bush doesn't believe in flip-flopping. Right. Sarcasm.

6. Yup, my co-worker said the same thing this morning...
She said this issue alone is enough to make her vote for Kerry...she agreed that when a universal issue is being held back because of a small vocal minority (i.e. the "Christian" right), then we are no longer in a democracy.

8. Scarboro jerk, said he's for stem cell tech....
due to his 12 year old having juvenile diabetes. Told Ron, his speech touched home. Ron surprised that Scarboro openly, has never supported stem cell. Ron was very caring toward scarboro's child.

I liked that Ron put the stem cell issue in very simple everyday language. Debunked the religious nuts' misinformed stories out the door.

10. i think many want to vote kerry and ron reagan gave them "permission"
that they wanted

this way when someone is a republican or moderate, it doesnt have to be about that they really dont want * or have to like kerry

this way they can cross over the line (that so many are on) from * to kerry and they can explain to themselves, and to family or co workers, that its because of stem cell or ron reagan.

not that they dont fully believe in stem cell. i just think that some need for themselves and this very emotional time, a reason that they know is legitimate but also outside of ideology or party. switching over with this noble cause gives them something they can do, they feel better about it, and can now vote kerry.

fwiw....

11. what a great point !
Today I am hearing the same theme everywhere. Either " I was going to vote for Bush and now I'm not" or " I was anyone but Bush, and now I am pro Kerry". Wonder if the polls will reflect this?
