A very important detail (good for Dems) buried deep in the last Gallup
http://www.gallup.com/content/?ci=12442
(scroll down)

They asked voters how enthusiastic they are about voting this year compared to prior elections

Among Republicans/Republican leaners

51% more enthusiastic
32% less enthusiastic
15% same

Among Democrats/Democratic leaners

68% more enthusiastic
20% less enthusiastic
12% same

Historically Republicans are more likely to vote and in 2000 they were more enthusiastic about voting than Dems.

While polling firms guard their "likely voter" formulas like KFC guards it's herbs and spices, they rely heavily on past voting history. However, this year "voting history" could be rewritten.

Note the poll was taken July 19-21 well before the start of the convention

1. I have been thinking about this for a while
I think the youth and the African American voters are fired up. I simply do not think the Republicans have the numbers to win.

2. I noticed that when the poll first came out
Its really fabulous news and if we can keep the passion strong, we can win this thing

3. record turnout in the dem primaries
the numbers were huge, and I saw very little discussion of this, and zero mention of it now.

Also in the primaries, Bush actually LOST New Hampshire, also unnoticed...

5. This is our "secret" weapon this year
and the one the pundits and media are missing completely. The feeling this year reminds me of the year of the "angry white men" in 1994 only in reverse. There is a HUGE groundswell of anger that will bring increased TURNOUT on our side. Adding in a measure of increased participation from the "I normally don't vote crowd", this might be more significant that we anticipate.

6. Also, a lot of new voters are going to be coming out to oust Bush

The backlash against Bush may turn out to be the begining of a Democratic revival.

7. You bet
^ You bet that would happen, and if the Media Networks were covering the speeches of the DNC much more, it would reinvigorate a lot of energy to more Democrats across the U.S.!!!

8. Well, that's the thing
Bush is so bad that people who never think about politics or even watch the news know that they want him out.
