The war- how are Dems different then Repubs? |
|
This has been pissing me off for a long time, but watching the convention the last few days it is getting to the point where I can't hold it in any more...
If the war is wrong why don't we get out?
What I don't get is how me and probably 99% of people on this forum and nearly as many at the convention know the war is wrong and that our young people are dying.
What are our democratic nominees saying about the war? They don't like the way it started but they don't want to end it.
Why can't our nominees say we will get out ASAP?

1. We made a mess and are now OBLIGED TO CLEAN IT UP! |
|
I opposed this stupid war too, but I see the need to stabilize Iraq.
We broke it and now we must fix it.

Good answer. Pulling out now would make the situation much worse. How people can (no matter what their opinion) blindly, without any real thought say pull out asap is beyond me. That would be disastoruous for the Iraqi people and the middle east as a whole.

5. We aren't fixing it--it gets worse the longer we are there. |

7. You say that like it's a fact... |
|
...but how do you know it is true?
If "fix it themselves" means descend into civil war, I'm not sure that's what we want.
The situation in Iraq now is much more complex than pithy statements like this.

6. Just because we broke it, doesn't mean WE should fix it |
|
We should let the IRAQIS decide who "fixes" their country, NOT GW, not the "allies", not Halliburton, not anyone else.
If an arsonist burned down your house, would you want the arsonist to rebuild it for you, according to his specifications, how he wants it to be?
Of course not!!! You'd get his money, and use it to rebuild your house how YOU like it! After all, it's your house, and you are the one who has to live there-- not him.
We should pay reparations to Iraq for the damage we caused, and the money should be put in trust for the people of Iraq to have their country rebuilt by WHO they want, and HOW they want it.
Right now, the "rebuilding" is a giant welfare program for American corporations. In a country with over 80% unemployment, American firms are importing workers from other countries to do the work.
This is clearly unfair. Give the Iraqis self-determination. Let THEM decide what they want the "new Iraq" to be-- NOT the US or its corporate shills.

4. Let me tell you how were 'different' George Bush or John Kerry. |
|
They are different men with different visions/passions/ideals/beliefs/intellect.
Bush has co-opted the Democrats suggestions on Iraq. But, rest assured, there are differences in spite of what the Faux rhetoric is.
