The best Kerry line was... |
|
I know, there's too many to choose one. But to which quote does the top spot go to?
My fave:
I will not appoint a VP who conducts secret meetings with polluters. I will not appoint a Secretary of Defense who does not listen to others. I will not appoint an Attorney-General who ignores the Constitution of the United States of America.
Or something along those lines.

2. Ne knows all about the Sauds and their influence on American |

business/politics. He ran the Senate BCCI investigation in the 90s. I look for him to really address this issue as American's 21st century security threat as President.

But he knows lots of other things also (we don't know). This speech was towards a particular audience...... You understand?

7. It was towards the Saudi Royal Family |
|
He's made reference to them on several occasions, long before F911 came out. It's that cold anger he spoke about in December. The anger at what the BFEE has done to this country goes back to Vietnam, Iran/Contra, illegal central American wars and more. There was nothing in that speech that was directed at any particular voting group, it was putting the world on notice. Help is on the way, but some are going to have to change their ways and the Saudi Royal Family is the first on the list.

He didn't need to see it, he's been living it for the last 3 years. And longer!

13. The chimpministration keeps saying |
|
that we won't let our decisions be made by foreign powers (as a response to Kerry's wanting to actually have allies). I thought this was a PERFECT response.
I don't think it was necessary for him to see the movie to be able to say this. Most of us (DU) knew it before.
The Saudis are on notice. Keep your extremism to yourselves.

5. I agree with you, that was the best part and got the strongest reaction |
|
from the crowd. The comment about Defense was about listening to the professional soldiers that make our defense their careers, and I strongly suspect that he won over the Pentagon and military with that remark, because those guys have been ignored, and people are now paying for it with their lives.

That's what it's all about, whether it's about fear from terrorism or fear of losing one's job.
It was also well delievered.
Overall I'm very impressed by his speech. I was worried it would be like his standard speeches after his primary victories.

but the one that truly made me think of just how wise and great Kerry is was "we should hope we are on god's side like Abraham Lincoln said", something like that. I cracked up at the story of how he was traveling through East Berlin on a bike, and he proudly told his dad, his dad promptly grounded him. heh it was a great speech, this is the real Kerry, the progressive visionary one.

12. "The future doesn't belong to fear. It belongs to freedom!" |
|
That was the line that stood out to me. It sounded Kennedyesque. (Course, JFK would have said "The future belongs not to fear but to freedom," but close enough.)
I read that JK wrote this out in longhand, and that Ted Sorenson, JFK's speech writer, gave it a once over.

18. the best part was the "what if" ? on new scientific technologies |
|
where he talked about kitty hawk and the plane flight years ago, about a president who asked "what if" on whether a man could go to the moon. then talked about his own "what if" on support for stem cell research and all it's promises.

19. The United States never goes to war because we want to, |
|
we only go to war because we have to. That is the standard of our nation.
I love that riff, especially the last bit "That is the standard of our nation." They tended to cut that last part out of the coverage afterwards, but to me that says it all regarding Iraq. Bush&Co has failed to meet the standard of our nation.
