hard-working Americans, white Americans
I realize this is now beating a dead horse. I just want our holdout Clinton supporters to be fully aware of just where the Clinton campaign has gone.

"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article "that found how Sen. Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-05-07-clintoninterview_N.htm

"working, hard working Americans, white Americans"

It is hard to avoid the base racists implications of that phrase. The phrase fails to border on racism, it is overt over the top racist pandering. That statement by Clinton is simply indefensible.

This hard working white american is horrified by the racism that has now become overt from Mrs. Clinton. Not only is she under my bus, she got there after I backed up over her having already run her over from the front.

Bill and Hillary: please go away. You are rich white college educated elites, wealthy beyond most of our imaginations, go have a nice long permanent vacation. Thanks for all the fish.

49. Not a racist in the classic definition perhaps
but she is obviously USING racism--ie. capitalizing on the existence of racism-- to try to win an election. Call it what you want--it is inexcusable for any American, and ESPECIALLY offensive to Democrats, both Obama and Hillary supporters alike. I assume Hillary supporters do not like the use of racism as a device for political gain. She has insulted her own supporters who have any integrity. If I were a Hillary supporter now--I have been one in a lukewarm sort of way in the past--but if I were a Hillary supporter today I'd be knocking back a few anti-depressants of choice....

This insults us all.

36. After your "Warren Stupidity" how about a War On Spin?
Hillary did say that she has been getting more support from white voters.

She did not say that black people don't work.

Obama mis-speaks all the time. On Tuesday night he said that US energy policy is "funding both sides of the war on terror" - as if energy policy was actually financing the deployment of US military forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"The man I met in Pennsylvania who lost his job but can't even afford the gas to drive around and look for a new one - he can't afford four more years of an energy policy written by the oil companies and for the oil companies; a policy that's not only keeping gas at record prices, but funding both sides of the war on terror and destroying our planet in the process."

Indeed I keep spinning her phrase and its opposite around in my head and I keep coming up with: Hillary Clinton just went George Wallace '68 on us.

I just took my bus out of reverse, slammed it into first, and ran over her again for good measure. Thunkitta-thunkitta-thunk. The Clintons and their carefully planned triangulating bullshit are dead to me.

Grow up and get off your "The Clintons and all of their supporters are racists" bandwagon. It is fabricated and offensive, and it does not serve your candidate's campaign well.

I really hope you do not use that type of approach when you are talking face to face with undecided voters. "You racist" will not convince them.

Geez, I got to see how this local community rewards their own, and whereever they can get away with it, decisions were based on cronyism. No wonder things are beginning to fall apart, when major decisions are based on who fits into your comfort zone, rather than who really can get the job done.

"Hard working" is what politicians including Al Gore often say instead of "working class," and Hillary uses it that way consistently, and she'd added the reference to white Americans as she clarified what the AP story said.

It was disasstrously jumbled and misunderstood, but it was NOT racist.

It was even more misunderstood and overhyped than Obama's "bitter" comment.

News item: Obama speaks before a group of African Americans and says:

Would you then accuse Obama of playing the race card? Or would you write it off as neutral and fair-minded?

since it is a common phrase, and also a meaningless cliche that abets white privilege in its most familiar uses.

Being African American myself, I'm not likely to forget the human impact of how we engage in conversation and public policy about race.
