Zogby phone poll taken during convention has Kerry/Edwards up 48%-43%!
http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews848.html

While the Democratic Party rallies in Boston at the Democratic National Convention, the presidential ticket of Massachusetts Senator John Kerry and North Carolina Senator John Edwards holds a five point lead over President George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney (48%-43%), according to a new Zogby America poll. The telephone poll of 1001 likely voters was conducted from Monday through Thursday (July 26-29, 2004). Overall results have a margin of sampling error of +/-3.2.

Zogby International conducted telephone interviews of 1001 likely voters chosen at random nationwide.  All calls were made from Zogby International headquarters in Utica, N.Y., from Monday, July 26 through Thursday, July 29. The margin of error is +/3.2 percentage points. Slight weights were added to region, party, age, race, religion, gender and presidential voter to more accurately reflect the voting population. Margins of error are higher in sub-groups.

Bush/Cheney has lost three points since the last Zogby poll early in July; undecided has risen three points.

1. check this one out:
LOOK AT THIS AOL POLL!!! Kerry kicking Bush's ASS!!!

Who would do a better job as president?

John Kerry 60%
George Bush 40%

How would you rate Kerry's speech?

Excellent 53%
Poor 18%
Fair 15%
Good 13%

Total Votes: 142,859

I believe that AOL pretty much reflects middle class America and so, despite it being an online poll, is very good news.

3. But Andrea Mitchell
said last night "IF Kerry is to have a CHANCE at beating * he needs to be more specific"

I was wondering how she missed all of these polls?

4. Sounds as if she missed the speech and hasn't taken him up on his
suggestion that she visit Kerry.com. Katie Couric, whom I normally like, must have read the same handbook, because she asked Kerry the same question on the Today show this AM.

Come on! You ladies know the answer to that stupid question. If he spelled out his specifics in his campaign speech, she and her "journalist" friends would be telling us how boring he is, we don't need a policy wonk, didn't the Dems learn anything from Al Gore, bla bla bla. And unfortunately, that's how a lot of TV viewers react also--or switch the clicker. That's why smart speakers describe the highlights in their speeches and direct you to their websites for details. If this catch-22 doesn't clearly show how slanted the media are, I don't know what will.

I will be very interested to see how they respond to the Republican convention.

9. And if he WAS more specific...

she'd surely call that a "laundry list." What exactly is a laundry list anyway? I make grocery lists, but never laundry lists.

6. I might add that the poll was completed last night before JK's speech!
This augers well for a further bounce, I would speculate.

7. If it is "likely voters" it will miss new voters who are energized for
Kerry or energized to vote against Bush. I feel this will be a significant factor this time and may be the difference between a squeaker and a comfortable win for Kerry.

8. 48%-43% is what it was in July 6 thru 7 Zogby poll. So, no bounce?
