Bush criticizes Kerry's achievements
By Pete Yost
July 30, 2004 | Springfield, Mo. --
President Bush launched his counterattack against John Kerry on Friday, saying his Democratic rival has spent 19 years in the U.S. Senate with “no signature achievements.”
“My opponent has good intentions, but intentions do not always translate to results,” Bush told thousands of supporters who repeatedly interrupted his remarks with standing ovations. Over and over, Bush repeated a new refrain: “Results matter.”
Full article.
Karl Rove must be losing his touch--"results matter"? Do they
really want to go down
that particular road?
Okay, let's see....
Squandering the goodwill of the entire planet in the wake of the 9/11 attacks? Check.
Lying the U.S. into a war in Iraq? Check.
900+ U.S. soldiers dead in Iraq? Check.
10,000 soldiers wounded or ill?
Check.11,000+ (possibly 13,000+) Iraqis dead?
Check.Continuing to insist, in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary, that Iraq and al Qaeda were working in concert to carry out the 9/11 attacks?
Check.Sunni and Shiite Muslims in Iraq joining forces against the U.S., which they now view as their common enemy?
Check.Taliban returning to power in Afghanistan?
Check.Opium and heroin trade again flourishing in Afghanistan?
Check.I could go on, but the Bush camp is really cheneying themselves by using "results matter," imho, so I think I'll just stand back and let 'em.;)
Another excerpt:Bush also mounted a defense of his record, saying that Kerry would erase gains made in the past four years in the economy and U.S. security.
WTF? The war in Iraq has supercharged recruiting for terrorist groups, and the U.S. has seen the eradication of millions of jobs, and Bush thinks there were
gains?! Cognitive dissonance at work!
I loved this counter from the Kerry camp.
In response to Bush's speech, the Kerry campaign said results do matter -- and that Bush's policies have led to record deficits, skyrocketing health costs, lower quality jobs, a military that is stretched too thin and a nation isolated from its allies.
“A brand new shiny speech won't cover up Bush's failure to help middle-class families. America doesn't need more misleading campaign slogans,” said Kerry spokesman Phil Singer.
In his acceptance speech Thursday night, Kerry hit hard at the president's handling of the Iraq war and the war on terror.
“Saying there are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq doesn't make it so,” said Kerry. “Saying we can fight a war on the cheap doesn't make it so. And proclaiming mission accomplished certainly doesn't make it so.”
