Bush campaign plans/themes for Aug/Sept
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 09:47 AM by papau
In September the interview with Dr. Phil on child rearing that Bush and the First Lady did will air. Bush also did an extensive interview about fishing that will air soon.

There's a new stump speech that will use buzz words/phrases: "preparing Americans for success — making sure they have the training they need to succeed in a changing economy, making America safe, strengthening families and communities - the significant progress by Bush in those areas," , "flex time, and ownership society, to include Social Security." - gee post at DU a few weeks ago was http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=117x4085 all about "ownership society" -End Soc. Sec & Medicare & employer provided benefits-GOP Cong. Ryan (R-WI)

From Congressman Ryan's Speech

This election is the most important in decades. It will determine if we ....return to the undesirable history of Social Security and Medicare and other defined benefits....

Social Security and Medicare are based on collectivism.

(Election will determine if we continue to move to) ... a society built on individual responsibility.

IRA and Health savings accounts should define the future

Employers should facilitate access, not provide benefits.

(above is as quoted from Ryan Speech by BCG Insider newsletter volume 3 - edition 4 - July 2004)

sigh :-)

2. Bush's New Stump Speech, Same Old Misleading Content
Bush Validates Kerry's Speech; Bush's New Stump Speech, Same Old Misleading Content

To: National Desk and Political Reporter

Contact: Chad Clanton or Phil Singer, 202-464-2800, both of Kerry-Edwards Campaign, Web: http://www.johnkerry.com

WASHINGTON, July 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today the by Kerry-Edwards Campaign:

Kerry spokesman Phil Singer said: "Last night John Kerry (news - web sites) pledged to restore trust and credibility to the White House and today George Bush showed us why that's needed. A brand new shiny speech won't cover up Bush's failure to help middle class families. America doesn't need more misleading campaign slogans, we need a new President."

The Truth About Bush's Flex-Time Ideas:

With less than 100 days to go in his Presidency, Bush is finally talking about how to address the increasing stress families face each day trying to balance their responsibilities as parents in the face of massive job loss, stagnant wages, and the rising costs of life in Bush's America such as health care and education. After nearly four years of making things harder for American families on these key issues, Bush's rhetoric might be changing: why should we believe him now?

-- Under Bush, Wages are Stagnant, New Jobs Paying Less --

Wages Stagnating Under Bush. In 2004, wages and salaries rose a slim 0.6 percent for the second quarter in a row. Over the past 12 months, wages are up just 2.5 percent, matching the period through March as the smallest 12-month gain on records dating to 1982. According to the Department of Labor, in the last 12 months, wages and salaries grew at the slowest rate in over 20 years. In the first 2 years of the Bush administration, real income has dropped by almost $1,500 per household. (US Department of Labor; US Census; Reuters, 7/29/04)

3. Does Chimpy think that flextime is something new?
OR is he by any chance hoping that his flextime idea will ease the pain of dumping overtime?

I suspect the latter...

5. Here's another BushCo theme: "Results matter."
(Have to get a Salon Premium daypass to read the whole thing.)

Bush criticizes Kerry's achievements

By Pete Yost

July 30, 2004 | Springfield, Mo. --

President Bush launched his counterattack against John Kerry on Friday, saying his Democratic rival has spent 19 years in the U.S. Senate with “no signature achievements.”

“My opponent has good intentions, but intentions do not always translate to results,” Bush told thousands of supporters who repeatedly interrupted his remarks with standing ovations. Over and over, Bush repeated a new refrain: “Results matter.”

Full article.

Karl Rove must be losing his touch--"results matter"? Do they really want to go down that particular road?

Okay, let's see....

Squandering the goodwill of the entire planet in the wake of the 9/11 attacks? Check.

Lying the U.S. into a war in Iraq? Check.

900+ U.S. soldiers dead in Iraq? Check.

10,000 soldiers wounded or ill? Check.

11,000+ (possibly 13,000+) Iraqis dead? Check.

Continuing to insist, in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary, that Iraq and al Qaeda were working in concert to carry out the 9/11 attacks? Check.

Sunni and Shiite Muslims in Iraq joining forces against the U.S., which they now view as their common enemy? Check.

Taliban returning to power in Afghanistan? Check.

Opium and heroin trade again flourishing in Afghanistan? Check.

I could go on, but the Bush camp is really cheneying themselves by using "results matter," imho, so I think I'll just stand back and let 'em.;)

Another excerpt:
Bush also mounted a defense of his record, saying that Kerry would erase gains made in the past four years in the economy and U.S. security.

WTF? The war in Iraq has supercharged recruiting for terrorist groups, and the U.S. has seen the eradication of millions of jobs, and Bush thinks there were gains?! Cognitive dissonance at work!

I loved this counter from the Kerry camp.

In response to Bush's speech, the Kerry campaign said results do matter -- and that Bush's policies have led to record deficits, skyrocketing health costs, lower quality jobs, a military that is stretched too thin and a nation isolated from its allies.

“A brand new shiny speech won't cover up Bush's failure to help middle-class families. America doesn't need more misleading campaign slogans,” said Kerry spokesman Phil Singer.

In his acceptance speech Thursday night, Kerry hit hard at the president's handling of the Iraq war and the war on terror.

“Saying there are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq doesn't make it so,” said Kerry. “Saying we can fight a war on the cheap doesn't make it so. And proclaiming mission accomplished certainly doesn't make it so.”

7. Concerning your quote...
<<WTF? The war in Iraq has supercharged recruiting for terrorist groups, and the U.S. has seen the eradication of millions of jobs, and Bush thinks there were gains?! Cognitive dissonance at work!>>

Isn't it ironic that the war in Iraq has recruited more international terrorists that hate us than it has recruits for the U.S. Military!!! Isn't it supposed to be the other way around???

8. After 3 1/2 years we're now just 'turning the corner'?
So that's the slogan "turning the corner"?

That's the best they could come up with? Let's say the premise is that we're turning the corner after 9/11 (three years ago). I still think whatever Bush claims to have accomplished it is too little, too late.

Let's pretend Bush is in his last semester in college and he is getting a B- GPA. Ok, not bad. The problem is, though, he got D's and F's the first seven semesters.
