Bush Validates Kerry's Speech; Bush's New Stump Speech, Same Old Misleading Content

WASHINGTON, July 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today the by Kerry-Edwards Campaign:

Kerry spokesman Phil Singer said: "Last night John Kerry (news - web sites) pledged to restore trust and credibility to the White House and today George Bush showed us why that's needed. A brand new shiny speech won't cover up Bush's failure to help middle class families. America doesn't need more misleading campaign slogans, we need a new President."

The Truth About Bush's Flex-Time Ideas:

With less than 100 days to go in his Presidency, Bush is finally talking about how to address the increasing stress families face each day trying to balance their responsibilities as parents in the face of massive job loss, stagnant wages, and the rising costs of life in Bush's America such as health care and education. After nearly four years of making things harder for American families on these key issues, Bush's rhetoric might be changing: why should we believe him now?

-- Under Bush, Wages are Stagnant, New Jobs Paying Less --

Wages Stagnating Under Bush. In 2004, wages and salaries rose a slim 0.6 percent for the second quarter in a row. Over the past 12 months, wages are up just 2.5 percent, matching the period through March as the smallest 12-month gain on records dating to 1982. According to the Department of Labor, in the last 12 months, wages and salaries grew at the slowest rate in over 20 years. In the first 2 years of the Bush administration, real income has dropped by almost $1,500 per household. (US Department of Labor; US Census; Reuters, 7/29/04)

State Taxes are Rising. Since the beginning of the Bush administration, because of revenue shortfalls and reductions in federal support, 32 states have been forced to raise net taxes and fees by a total of $16.2 billion. (Center for Budget and Policy Priorities; Blueprint, Vol. 2003, No. 3)

5. Tepid Response
From my own blog (http://www.livejournal.com/users/tomfodw/):

So, it's all about results, huh?

That's Bush's attempt at a new campaign slogan ("Beginning a two-day swing through four presidential battlegrounds, Bush planned to take a subtle slap at Democratic rival John Kerry. 'When it comes to choosing a president, results matter,' Bush said in excerpts of his new stump speech obtained by The Associated Press").

As many others have pointed out (for example, http://www.dailykos.com/ - "These results, Mr. President?:'Iraq Funds Are Focus of 27 Criminal Inquiries', 'Iraq National Assembly Conference Postponed Amid Fraud Allegations'"), I'm not sure that's such a good idea for Dubya.

This is the kind of thing Kerry's so-called "Rapid Response" team needs to be jumping on microseconds after Bush reveals it. They can't simply let Bush get away with such nonsense. They need to have the fax # and email address of every political journalist and editor in the USA primed and ready to go and start flooding as soon as Bush says this kind of idiocy. They can't wait. I mean, what's the point of calling it "rapid response" if it isn't?

The Republicans do this kind of thing all the time (and so did the Democrats in '92 under Carville and Begala). They get their "talking points" in the hands of Katie Couric and Paula Zahn and Tim Russert instantly, and those lazy jerks parrot everything into their microphones.

I'm not saying Kerry would be as successful in getting the emasculated press to be so complaisant, but he's got to try!

This is a very good start!
