Statistical/analytical comparison of 2004 with 1994? |
|
This year reminds me of 1994. That year, there was a sense of real anger out there against Clinton, and it showed up in turnout--the Dems got slaughtered because their people stayed home and the Repugs' people turned out in droves. As I recall, no pollsters saw it coming--it was a phenomenon that flew under the radar.
I think the same could be happening this year. Obviously, the overall turnout will be higher because the Prez is up for reelection, so the impact of anger may be less noticeable. But, it still has that feeling of a quiet, building storm.
Has anyone seen any serious, quantitative or analytical comparisons between 2004 and 1994?

I think 2004 has the potential of being another '94 or '80 when an incumbent president is repudiated and could result in major congressional gains. I think there is a better than 50% chance that dems will gain control of the house and senate.
