Shame on the GOP for choosing that poor old madman for their candidate! |
|
Talk about your basic dirty rotten trick! I really feel for McCain; he's literally been through hell. He can't even raise his arms properly due to injuries sustained whilst crashing planes. And the mental anguish he had to endure at the hands of his captors has no doubt left its indelible mark.
I think he is damaged goods. I think his damage will pull at the heartstrings of America just like they do mine. But we can't rely on the rest of America to have the same perspective as we do, so this could be a problem. Small, but effective dirty trick.
Then comes the inevitable debates. I'm wondering what dirty tricks will be used in this arena. Either one of our Dem candidates could be trusted to keep their cool whilst McCain looses his... and we've heard for years what a hot head he is. I'm betting that the media debate hosts will play it safe and easy with McCain, lobbing softballs. There could, and should, still be fireworks. How much can McCain take before he blows his stack? And if and when he does blow his stack (I would think this inevitable in a debate situation) will we be told we are bad Americans for saying anything untoward about an American Hero? That's how they will frame him, you know. An American Hero. So anything negative stated about him will be automatically thrust through the Proper Way to Address an American Hero vetting process.
As I said, I honestly feel sorry for the man. He's been through a lot, and I feel he was severely damaged (on many levels) in the process. Who will be his keepers? Who will hold the strings? I cannot for the life of me imagine McCain with the reins in his own hands.
Who will his brain be?

21. Speaking of married... |
|
I sense a riff in that marriage... snarky comments back and forth... American probably won't take too much of that.
And on that note, I understand she has always kept her finances separate from her husband's. I think we should make a HUGH stink about both of them releasing their financials... they did it to the Clintons! What's fair for the goose...
Credit: Howardx said this about financials this morning... he always gives me a hard time when I "steal" his good thoughts;)

Once he shows his dark side to the voters they won't be able to put the genie back in the bottle.

|
These fundraisers bring out a lot of lockstep GOP support... what I don't get is how so many of them think the American public is so stupid that we'll swallow the whole McCain deal! He's obviously a puppet without a brain suited for reason!

That would be a wonderful change! Think, speak and chew pretzels at the same time!
The first thing the nominee needs to do is chomp down a big pretzel, on camera, before a cheering crowd!
Do you want four more years of a president who can't eat a pretzel properly?
Pretzels stalk McCain! Pictures at eleven!

23. About those "injuries sustained whilst crashing planes", you might wanna fact check that |
|
His physical disability came from having his arms repeatedly broken by his Vietnamese captors while in a POW camp & never having them properly set afterwards. It's not the sort of thing you want to joke about.
I have plenty of fun laughing at John McCain's cognitive infirmaties. The physical injuries he sustained as a POW should be off limits.

Look it up. His own words: "... pulled the ejection handle, and was knocked unconscious by the force of the ejection—the air speed was about 500 knots. I didn't realize it at the moment, but I had broken my right leg around the knee, my right arm in three places, and my left arm. I regained consciousness just before I landed by parachute in a lake right in the corner of Hanoi, one they called the Western Lake." http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/2008/01/28/john-mccain-prisoner-of-war-a-first-person-account.htmlMore here: http://www.b-29s-over-korea.com/book_reports/The-John-McCain-Story02.htmlThe GOP wants you to believe otherwise.

And mental anguish than they are with age or anything else... he comes from hearty stock, as illustrated by his mother. Not that she is fully responsible for his DNA and all that goes with it, but the mental state of a long term prisoner of war is very important to this election. We should without question honor his service, but by the same token, we need to vet his experiences and his state of mind as fully as we possibly can.
