Does this video ruin the prospects of an Obama-Webb ticket?
I have definitely been a big fan of an Obama-Webb ticket. I love Jim Webb's aggressiveness, his military and political experience, his Virginia roots (surely a swing state in the fall), and his bipartisanship. But then I saw this video...

The GOP may have a field day with that, not to mention it will give Clinton supporters an added excuse to vote for McCain in the fall. I'm fully aware the video is a smear campaign against the Senator when he was running for office but it still concerns me.

1. It didn't work.
It actually backfired and helped Webb because it was so absurd.

2. Leslie Bryne
a very popular woman in Virginia politics who was working on Webb's campaign, helped Webb. She organized for Hillary Clinton and some other prominent Democratic women to come in and defend him. Webb had a power breakfest with prominent Democratic women and all this was smoothed over quite effectively.

Probably this is the single reason that Webb did not endorse Obama.

3. I guess McCain will have to have a Macca Moment...
...I forgot all about George Allen.

This isn't good news for a Webb VP slot - after defeating Hillary, Obama can't have a VP that has this kind of history with women.

7. You can't take some testimonials from a few
women and parlay that in to a "history" -- especially off of a hit piece from his political opponent. If this is legit, I'm sure there's additional info available.

13. I agree...
...I have no idea who these women are or how credible they are. I was under the impression that George Allen did himself in with his "Macca Moment". I also don't think that women who may be disappointed that Hillary didn't win the nomination might not need a lot of encouragement to not like Obama.

17. For the record.
Jim Webb won his senate seat by defeating the presumptive heir to bush. Allen shot himself in both feet which were planted in his tobacco chew-in mouth at the time. The maccaka moment turned many, many moderates and independents off. That said, Jim Webb presented himself as who he is. He ran one hell of a campaign. The voters in Virgina said: works for us, you got the job, now go make us proud. He is an outstanding senator and the folks here are very proud of him.
We are about to elect our former Governor Mark Warner-D to the seat of retiring Senator John Warner who is a gentleman and a credit to Virginia. And no, you can not have either of our DEM Senators. Go look elsewhere. We might be able to spare the Governor though.

5. Well what are the comments these women are referring to?
That is what would be more telling -- not an advertisement for his political opponent. Unless we see something to back this up, I wouldn't worry about it. It apparently didn't hurt him in his run for the Senate, so maybe his response addressed these charges.

Speaking of which, kind of, Wesley Clark -- on Maher -- stated that the women in the ME LIKED being covered. When the panel and Maher said "no way" Clark was adamant -- said "yes, studies have shown..." or something like that. That concerned me, and I heard him say it, which is a drag because I really like him.

9. We must be careful
Not to project our assumptions about what is good onto other people who have grown up in a different cultural and physical environment. The studies Wes Clark referred to are probably correct. Now, if you were to take a group of these women and transport them to the Florida Keys for a few years they might come to feel differently about the matter. The point is, a person's preferences on these things must always be regarded in the context of their overall life experience and (as recently observed by Jeremiah Wright) "different does not mean deficient".

12. You make an excellent point. I stand corrected.
Projecting my assumptions is behaving like Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush -- and I disparaged them for that.

Thanks. :hi:
