71. Looks like we'll have to wait for another day to celebrate. Huckabee Index = 3
Three short for today. I have my next post all lined up and ready to go when Huck gets goosed.

Greyskye, I stole your club emoticon for the next thread! (pssst ... thanks!)

I'm off to eat a waffle and wash it down with some orange kool-aid. Good night!

4. Just because I am rather stupid.
The "Huckabee Index" is the number of any combination of superdelegates and convention/caucus delegates that the Obama campaign needs (or the Clinton campaign loses) to make it mathematically impossible for the Clinton campaign to win the nomination, based on current delegate count and polls for upcoming contests. (Disclaimer: This is meant to poke fun at Mike Huckabee, not Hillary Clinton)

But I am good with the googler.

You sir have kept us enlightened with your words, (graphs pie charts and etc.) When we had doubts we could turn to your posts...when we got in heated debates, ('debates'-ha!!!), we had your posts to link to and like magic our unworthy opponents disappeared!

Somehow we have almost gotten through this primary with our sanity intact and guess what? We have YOU to blame for keeping our fragile sanity intact!

blush away but: Credit where major credit is due, you've earned our gratitude and then some!

63. (major blushing) :)
It was Senator Clinton's spin after Texas that made me start this whole thing. I had to figure it out for my own sanity, and I felt better afterwards. So I shared it with you folks.

Transcendentally, you are saying that Senator Clinton's spin is to blame for keeping you sane! Ironic! LMAO!

I am very happy I was able to help others see through the shitstorm!

6. In other words if he out performs the polls that would result in additional delegates
or if he picks up any super delegates that would increase his number and reduce the H.I.

Once the H.I. It means that she not only has no reasonable mathematical chance to win she would have to win all of the super delegates from that point on not to be eliminated (assuming that the actual delegates from the remaining primaries are accurate - so far we have been able to forecast the delegates from primaries very very accurately. NC and Indiana phringndumass was off only a single delegate).

24. How did it get so low ?
Help me out here, phrigndumass.

There's a little variation from source to source, but not enough to make a big difference.

Per DCW, she is at 1696, 329 short of 2025. I'm guesstimating a generous 117 delegates out of 217 to her in the remaining contests. That leaves her needing 212 of the 257.5 remaining super delegates, for a (in my head) HI of 45.5.

Am I just being too generous to her with pledged delegates?

Edited on Fri May-09-08 05:32 PM by ShadowLiberal
I've read that you used 34 not yet selected add on delegates almost certain to go to Obama, but at 1869.5 even with those 34 add ons to come Obama would still need 121 more delegates to lock up the nomination.

43. The polls take care of the rest of the pledged delegates :)
West Virginia 35.5% (-29) 10 delegates
Kentucky 37.5% (-25) 20 delegates
Oregon 56.0% (+12) 30 delegates
Puerto Rico 43.5% (-13) 24 delegates
South Dakota 56.0% (+12) 9 delegates
Montana No Poll (+0) 8 delegates

101 delegates for Senator Obama will make it impossible for Senator Clinton to reach 2024.5.

48. If I apply those specfic spreads
Edited on Fri May-09-08 05:54 PM by dbmk
I get BO 97 - HRC 120. Thats applied evenly over all the districts.

That is a strict way of calculating it - and it might be too tight given that the thresholds rarely kicks in over all districts at the same time.

Oh; And it gives Hillary the odd delegate if we are right on a threshold like at 50-50 in Montana.

54. Conservatism with Obama's numbers always gets us into trouble, lol
I was being too conservative at first because I wanted to be kind to Clinton's numbers, but the results were always off by one or two. Then I set my spreadsheets to round up for Obama and give the remainder to Clinton, and instantly I was right on the nose most of the time after that.

I guess ya gotta be cruel to be kind!

57. Congratulations Obama supporters!
Well, I can close out this primary season knowing I did my best for the candidate that I supported. I sent what cash I could reasonably afford to Senator Clinton's campaign. I phone banked for her campaign for the Texas primary/caucus, and gave her my support at both. Pretty much once Texas was done, my ability to support her campaign (other than chatboard) support was over until the General.

Still hoping she pulls off some miracle, but I don't see it happening.

Congratulations Senator Obama supporters. He has run a magnificant race. I'll support for the general, you can count on that, but sadly, there isn't much chance of my states electoral votes going to him with or without my support.. but will do what I can!

59. Thank you for those words, Amimnoch! :)
Senator Clinton is definitely a fighter! She will go down in history as the first female presidential candidate who actually had an extremely good, legitimate chance at winning! We can't forget that. She has made it easier for the next female presidential candidate to walk through that door. She busted it wide open!

Your support of her campaign helped her do that.

:hi:

73. Amimnoch, I know it's heartbreaking when your candidate of choice doesn't get the prize
(I cried my eyes out in 2004 and after Gore's presidency was stolen) but know that we are all in it together to defeat McCain. And I think you rock. :yourock:

74. Question: can the Huckabee Index go up as well as down?
I mean, could it hit zero and then a superdelegate defect from Obama to Clinton and push it back up to 1 or 2? Or once it hits zero, is it game over?

88. Actually, it can go up even if the polls change.
The Huck Index is a bit odd and highly theoretical.

81. not true
the Huckabee formula counts 9 Pelosi delegates as part of the equation.

There are probably more but the assumption is that it will pull the nine who have publicly committed to it.

I definitely hedge my bets far more than that.

In my mind, the Huck number needs to be cranked up to match only those who have publicly declared.
