mcthuselah. Just sayin'...
I had to post this. My husband came up with it. I think it's hilarious and brilliant and deviously so - as a one-word sucker punch on the age issue.

I'm not afraid to be crass OR to hit below the belt. I think somebody has to. And since mcsame - mcthuselah - claims he's gonna take the high road (and we KNOW he's going to have thousands of surrogates in the mud wrestling arena so he can keep his little old paws "clean"), perhaps some of us might be in the mood to throw a punch or two for the Democratic nominee.

Just in case - here's another one to be said, read, and spread.

Whether our higher selves approve or not, the age thing is gonna be an issue. It already is for Hillary, among those attempting to calculate how old she might be the next time she might consider another run for the White House. For mcsame, mcthuselah, it's an issue at this very moment. And for him it's not gonna go away. It's only going to get more glaring whether we do anything on it or not, especially in the upcoming debates between him and Obama (assuming Obama is indeed our standard-bearer). All they'll have to do is stand side-by-side, and everybody subconsciously is going to be adding up the birthday candles and the denture-cleaner and the Viagra differentials between them. JFK made "vigor" a household word with (and about) his youth and athleticism. It was an issue that came up in the campaign and that they used to the greatest advantage. It became synonymous with the brand Kennedy, and it was all to the good. And it was nothing nixon could capitalize on - "vigor" sure wasn't him. And he wasn't half as anemic and decrepid-looking as mcthuselah is.

I say we have some fun with it. And start managing and manipulating some perceptions. And we get extra points for being excruciatingly clever!

I just thought I'd throw that in as we all start working up various strategies and ideas and stuff. FWIW.

 DU!

4. I'm all for bashing McCain.........
But there are lots of older people who are great because they are older and have spent a lifetime learning to speak their minds.

They give sound counsel and have good judgement and I'd hate for them to think that Democrats don't like older people because they're older. I hope I'm not being too PC.

As a veteran, I think McGrumpy could be bashed everyday simplyy based on his vote against improving the GI Bill. And I'm sure there are a hundred other ways we bash him without pi$$ing off some demographic.

6. OMG that's rich considering you just mocked someone in another thread
For her ostensible alcoholism.

NOW you worry about being "PC". Apparently, warmongering creep John McInsane must be protected from insults about his age. Yet because a progressive radio host called Her Clintonian Majesty a name she is fair game.

Unbelievable. :puke:

8. Is Randi running for President?
Edited on Fri May-09-08 04:41 PM by TheDebbieDee
I thought not.

Randi deserves to be treated like the foul-mouthed drunk that she is. The only people that will be offended are her fans, and I think Obama already has their votes.

And stop stalking me. You're acting unhinged.........:scared:

12. Tell Randi I said "Hi!" I'm sure the bars are open, now!
Also, try "Googling" for "12-steps" - it's not a dance, dear.

13. Well, of course, you tailor your presentation to your audience.
I wouldn't use this just any-old-where, for the exact reason you specify.

But the opportunity IS going to come up. In one way or another. And there's still a fair amount of time for that to happen, since we'll be working this all the way to November.

11. Also thought I'd throw this in, as long as we're talking strategy:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=3302997&mesg_id=3303267

Just some things to think about. It helps to have some good one-liners (especially if they're clever enough to make/leave an upbeat impression. People just LIKE IT when you make 'em chuckle. AND if they're SHORT one-liners - better for the short-attention-span-theater types to absorb - like they recommend with quick jabs in sparring class - get in, strike, get out, fast-fast-fast.)

:toast:

Besides, it IS an issue and it IS fair game.

Consider this - the age thing comes up in discussion of Hillary Clinton also, in the context of - "...if she waits eight years to try again, she'll be 68 - presumably a questionable age by then" so it's something that people ARE thinking about, concerned about, and kicking around as a subject.

For those of us who are old enough to remember living through reagan, at least some of us suspected that Alzheimers had already started to set in with him, based on his performance, Nancy having to prop him up in public by whispering things into his ear to say when somebody threw him a question. It's one thing when it's your Aunt Tessie or Ol' Uncle Bob, but when it's the President of the United States, the guy with the proverbial nuclear football within reach at all times, and the guy whose job includes positioning his finger near "THAT" button - yeah, age is a factor. It matters if they're getting too long in the tooth. ESPECIALLY when the guy in question can't seem to tell the difference between Shia and Sunnis, and where he stood on what issue on what day. He's been up and down on so many issues for so long that he's like a human yoyo by now.

Yeah. The age thing DOES matter here. It makes a difference, with a candidate who is demonstrably dingy upstairs. Besides, we've already been there and done that (and been done by that). As Obama might say - "NOT THIS TIME!!!"

19. Maybe we should point out he's "too experienced"--
Repubs like to call younger Dems "too inexperienced" as a way of encoding the idea "too young". Calling McThesulah "too experienced" would make it clear, tongue-in-cheek, what the *real* objection is!
