So today a (republican leaning) co-worker told me that she is scared that if Obama gets elected... |

Osama Bin Laden will hit again.
Yeah, that sound you heard was my jaw dropping. I said, "What do you MEAN by that, exactly?" and she said that he is scared of him and doesn't think he would be a very strong leader. My response was that she voted for GW and that Repubs thought he would keep things "safe" but that OBL attacked under HIS watch, so technically REPUBLICANS should scare her... not democrats.
She hates Hillary and thinks McCain is old and "scary".
Her decision as of now is not to vote at all. I asked how she could justify that decision and she said she couldn't vote for McCain in case he took us to Iran, because she would feel responsible. And if she voted for Senator Obama, we would get hit by terrorists and she would feel responsible. She doesn't think Hillary can be the nominee (and she hates her anyway) so that wasn't even part of the discussion.
I'm sorry... but, people thinking shit like this is why I think there should be some kind of exam you need to pass in order to vote. Sort of like your learners permit for driving. Republicans think and believe the STRANGEST SHIT!! Is it actually IN their coffee??? Cause that is NUTS

1. So basically she hates everybody and will vote for nobody. |
|
So her lack of intelligence on the issues cancels out her motivation to vote. SPLENDID!

5. I thought Senator Obama was friends with the terrorists? |
|
Edited on Mon May-12-08 05:35 PM by Seen the light
Why won't these loons make up their minds? He's both friendly with terrorists and will lead the country down the road to terrorism. He's an atheist, but he's also religious because he's a radical Muslim. Oh but he's a Christian. But not just any Christian. He's a BLACK Christian. By the way, did I mention that he must be the Antichrist? And Jeremiah Wright is obviously his False Prophet.
Oh the things you'll see the fundies say on the Internets.

12. You should give her a copy of Obama's anti Iraq War speech from 2002..... |
|
also tell her that if what she is are afraid that in electing a brown man with a funny name to the office of the Presidency, this will make Americans unsafe in America and overseas to terrorists attacks that might kill our citizens; that Iran's strength will grow in the ME; that our leadership will simply serve as recruiters for Al Qaeta; that Hamas might take control of the palestinian Goverment; that our civil liberties will be taken away from us; that the United States founders' intent of a balance of power will be placed in jeopardy; that our constitution will be ignored; that we will be lied into a war; that our taxpayer's money will be be given away to others in foreign lands; that the price of the oil we buy will rise to astronomical height, that our Country will be bankrupted; that those who are our friends will become our enemies, and that we will find ourselves indebted to the Chinese Communist regime while our jobs are given to them and taken from us......
All of that already happened under George Bush.
If anything, Obama being multicultural will ease the hate many foreigners have for America.
Barack is the antithesis of Bush.

16. It's not in their coffee. It's in what they watch, or listen to, or read, while they drink it. |
|
If she's a repuke, she probably watches FAUX & Friends in the morning, with Steve Douchebag, and Brian Hemmerhoid, and The Dumb Blonde of the Month rotating female host. Or listens to Mush Limpnoodle.
People who get their info this way believe the most ridiculous shit. Most of them still believe that Saddam Hussein personally flew his Lear Jet into the World Trade Center, and then dropped a load of exploding kittens into the Pentagon.
Unfortunately, we can't do anything about the lying corporate media (other than boycott them) until we get people in office who will act. Which is one reason I'm looking forward to Attorney General John Edwards going after bastards like Murdoch. And hopefully an FCC chair that will be the polar opposite of what Colin Powell's son Mikey was.

There are folks who give into the neo-pc meme where it's socially cool to hem and haw about all politics? Those types out there that would dismiss a race between Jesus and Buddha yammering that their both just politicians. If one person tells them 1+1=2 and another person says 1+1=3; they will insist it equals 2.5 just to be "middle of the road".

19. Try to do the best to educate her about Obama |
|
I have a secretary who talks similarly, and over the last few months, I've been able to win her over with Obama -- she used to call him "that Osama guy" and all -- she pretty much fits the description of the lady you described. She's not wanting to vote for McCain and does not like Clinton. I just talk very positively about Obama, and describe the things I like and the reasons I support him. It's almost as if she just needed some basic education. She doesn't watch the news, rarely reads anything about politics, etc. Sadly, she is the prime example of how our country gets so screwed up politically. She is a victim of the subprime mortgage fiasco, she's on the phone daily with creditors trying to keep from sinking, her husband is in construction and just lost his job. If there ever was someone who needs to be paying attention, it is this woman and she's not. So, I just bring her the news that I think will touch her -- I try not to come on too strong, though, because that's intimidating to her, IMHO. We can win people over one vote at a time. And, in these cases where they are not sold on another candidate, there's lots of things that can be said and done to persuade them. Good luck. :)

20. I hope you remind her that 9/11 happened on Junior's watch and |
|
that Junior's term, in fact, did not start 9/12/01 like some Republicans seem to think.
This is what happens when there is no accountability. We didn't really think the 9/11 Commission was actually going to complete their study into how the administration misused the intelligence to go to war, did we?
