Clinton supporter against Obama pledged delegates switching to Clinton |
|
I don't see why Obama supporters are happy. What happens if some switch for Hillary? What if Hillary holds out until the convention and asks the delegates, all of them, to vote their conscience, or to vote for who they think at that moment will win in November? And they vote for her?! While I would want them to, I don't think it is right. The primaries will truly mean nothing.
I would much rather that the pledged delegates vote how they are pledged and the supers vote for who they think will win. If Obama gets it, so be it. If Clinton gets it, so be it too.

1. She is the one who said they weren't pledged at all |

before she announced that they would be working on poaching them.
She can't cry foul when it works against her...

4. I think Pledged Delegates should stick with their voters. |

However, Hillary is the one who called them "so-called Pledged Delegates". No rules are being broken.
Go, Obama!

But I don't have to worry about that because it won't happen.

6. Pledged delegates don't USUALLY switch sides -- it's a real no-no |
|
Supers can change but only THIS YEAR (and only from the Clinton campaign) have I heard the argument that "pledged delegates aren't really pledged." It just "isn't done."

8. Why don't you ask Hillary that question... |
|
Obama supporters are tickled by Hillary pledged delegates switching because it was HILLARY who introduced the concept of pledged delegates could switch side. She took the outrageous step first and now she has to deal with it.

glanced down the comments and saw some were happy. The headline, BREAKING also got me going. You are right, most think it is wrong, to their credit. I am more concerned in this situation with a credible nominee even if it is not my first or second choice. We have enough chaos with super delegates. Think what will happen if it does go to the convention and pledged delegates are not really "pledged?" Even if this worked to Hillary's advantage, I have a problem with it.

we're all (both camps) pretty much in agreement. I think you're mistaking gleeful amusement with approval. It's wrong and it's funny as hell. Obamans don't need or deserve to be called out for it.

12. Pledged delegates are supposed to be extreme loyalists. |
|
So either they didn't properly choose and vet their pledged delegates. Because they're incompetent.
Or the delegate was so disgusted with Clinton's recent antics that even he or she had enough.
Either way, it's hillaryous.

very thing happening and being possible.
The difference is Obamas team did his hoemwork when choosing delegates and they chose people that won't slip.
Clintons team did not, and in several cases, one most notably pennsylvania did not even meet the deadline to supply the delegate lists.
In fact Hillary supporters moved the deadline for her in pennsylvania and her team still failed to supply a complete list, thats why she is in danger of losing delegates and why they will be shaky for her.

15. I'm not comfortable about it, but no one can dispute that Hillary reaped what she has sown |
|
She talked up the notion that they weren't really pledged, and in another short-sighted move, I guess she didn't anticipate that they would move away from her and to Obama.
She set herself up for that one.

16. Why didn't it occur to her |
|
thatthis could be used against her. I have read people on this board supporting HRC by using arguments about delegates changing their vote. It seems that it would be obvious to anyone that this could work both ways.

The supers were always intended to be flexible. If pledged does not mean pledged, then what does it mean?

I think it is sweet sweet justice that a delegate switched away from Hillary after her campaign to convince them it was okay to switch.

28. This switch is going to be an anomaly |
|
Most pledged delegates are hardcore supporters that are not going to switch even though they can. I think what made this a bit of a special case is that this delegate was originally supporting Obama, and was doing so as recently as December of last year. That he was selected as a pledged PLEO after eventually endorsing Clinton is probably a bit of an oversight on the part of the Clinton campaign. Hopefully this will be enough to get the rules changed next time around and will in the end be a good thing.
