Did any of you actually think Obama had a chance at winning WV in the General Election? |
|
Ok, I'm reading some of these posts about the WV primary and am laughing at some of the hand wringing that's going on here. How this spells doom for the General Election for Obama and how it shows how weak a nominee he is and so on and so forth.
Why is there any hand wringing at all over the results in WV?
Obama has no chance to win WV in the fall.
He also has no chance in Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, for the same reason he had no chance in West Virginia. These are some of the most virulently racist states in the country and a large enough number of voters there simply won't vote for a black man. I thought everyone knew this.

1. he could win Colorado, New Mexico,Nevada, Missouri, Iowa, Virginia |
|
maybe ARkansas if he picks Clark unless McCain picks Huck.
all candidates don't have to play by the same rules. in 2004 it would have been better if Kerry focused more on some of those above states instead of Florida. same goes for Al Gore. and of course Obama.
Obama has a much better chance at winning Virginia and Colorado than Hillary. and Hillary has a better chance at West Virginia and Arkansas than Obama.

2. Times do change things. Maybe it is to soon. |
|
I can re-call the to-do about JFK and the Pope. We do not hear that to day. 40 years and we do not think the Pope will run the country. I did not hear a word on that when Kerry ran. So it is slow but times do change some people. Maybe we should put out the news that Obama is half white? We could say it is OK to vote for the white half? Their are still people around, I guess, that would be happy to live next to a pig of a white family than a nice black family. I saw this over and over when I lived in the South and some what in the North but you would think that would be done with. Hillery has all ready pushed it as far as she dares I think. I still think she will take this to the floor in Co. Hard to give up a dream. I do think Hillary is smart and would be a pretty good President of the old type, deals and more deals. I just want to see the Bush/Clinton group to be gone.

3. Bill Clinton won the state....Twice! |
|
So I guess I would expect that Obama would have a chance to win if he gets in there and lets people know who he really is. It is not nice to judge all those states as being "virulently racist". I guess Obama should just write off those six states you mentioned because they are filled with a bunch of racists anyway? I think he will disagree with that and will be campaigning in them all for the GE. You can not write off a bunch of states and win in November.

He's his own candidate with his own unique strengths and weaknesses. It's silly expect him to adopt the same strategy Bill Clinton won with.
Oh and he's not going to campaign in those states in the fall. It's fine to "get in there and let people know" who you really are. But they have to be open to learning. The people there aren't open to that and his time and resources will be devoted elsewhere.

Bill won in a three way race and then as an incumbent. And Hill is no Bill.

16. Obama has done better then any other candidate in "NOT" writing off states.. |
|
The choice to write of WV was a strategic one.. why spend $$$ on a state that Hillary was going to win by a landslide anyway - when he could take his money and focus on other states that he did lose - but wants to focus on for the GE like MO?
Also - sadly, I do think there are a lot of people in this country that are less "Democrat vs. Republican" and more "I'm white and not Black".. and will vote racially vs. party lines. I think this could be said about gender as well - in a GE - some people would rather vote for the male vs. teh female if Hillary was the nominee.
Sadly, many still have predjudices... but we need to continue to be progressive and fight against it!
Go Obama!

The hand wringing that is going on is nothing short or ridiculous. We all knew he wouldn't win WV and KY. They are some of the most racist states in the country and Hillary is playing it for all that it is worth, which in itself it totally disgusting. I feel a rant coming on..... The press, of course is all over it, talking it up like there is no tomorrow, while Clinton is now more determined that ever to take it "to the mountaintop" as she put it and the only beneficiary is John McCain, who is sitting back in his Barco Lounger with a cold one and laughing all the way to the bank. If Hillary is pround of herself for winning these states and somehow claiming that only she can win the election, because the "uninformed" most "undereducated people support her, she is sadly mistaken and I find that so ignorant on her part, it is totally disgusting and to believe that people actually believe her is beyond me....
The superdelegates are in the tank for Obama, and sadly she is the last to know.....
Or on the other hand, she just might know...
She is in debt and she has a stake in keeping this going... More cash... More ways to bring the Democratic Party down with her assertions regarding Obama...a sort of I'm right your wrong attitude.... More ways to tout the mistaken idea of somehow going back to the party with an "I told you so"
I totally believe that she thinks that Obama is totally unelectable because he is Black but also she is like a screaming school child on a playground screaming: "but I was here first, it's my turn...it's not fair" Every time I hear her voice I feel like it is chalk on a blackboard. I find her actions delusional and totally dysfunctional...She would kneecap her own mother rant is now ended....

My experiences there indicated that a majority of people in WV are racist.
