You know who the Republicans are scared of now? Obama and Black voters
 I love this!

Washington Post:

After String of Losses, Republicans Face Crisis

-snip-
Several Republicans decried the NRCC's strategy in the Mississippi and Louisiana special elections of nationalizing the campaigns by linking the Democratic candidates to Obama. All that did, they said, was energize African Americans to vote, while taking the GOP's focus off the local issues the Democrats were riding to victory. "Cheap, partisan political points" are not going to work in this environment, Keller said.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/14/AR2008051403611_2.html?hpid=topnews

The special elections have been a testing ground. The Republican attacks on Dems by trying to tie them to Wright via Obama backfired. :D

NYT:

Republican Election Losses Stir Fall Fears

The result in Mississippi, and what Republicans said was a surge in African-American turnout, suggested that Mr. Obama might have the effect of putting into play Southern seats that were once solidly Republican, rather than dragging down Democratic candidates.

-snip-
The special election results left Democrats and Republicans in rare agreement about one thing: President Bush looms as a drag on Republicans. Democratic leaders said a combination of anxiety among voters about the state of the country and the prospect of an unusually heavy turnout of African-Americans meant that many new Senate and House seats could be in play, including those in states like North Carolina that just two years ago seemed out of reach for Democrats.

Woody Jenkins,
a Louisiana Republican who lost in a special House election this month, said in an interview that the high African-American turnout in his district was “probably the decisive factor” in his loss.

1. K&R, and damn right they are.
And if they are smart, they should recognize that it's not just about 2008-12, it's about the risk of a more permanent increase in black voter turnout against the rethugs.

6. It's that bad and worse
They are also afraid of Obama and white moderate Republicans.
The ones they've been pissing on for years while praising the spring rain.

7. What they're doing...
..in Southern states is tantamount to cross-burning and doing some loud white sheet dog whitsling. We're not the voting bloc they want to f*ck with.

8. In the Miss race, Childers disowned obama's support. So, do not
give obama any credit for helping childers. Childers, said, "I never accepted the support of Obama."

9. Childers was smart!
The AA voters in that Congressional District knew what the Republicans were trying to do to Childers, and he didn't "disown" Obama's support (because he never met him). They played this card too heavily and it backfired.

Try to play the Willie Horton/Scary Black Man angle is tired, and alienating or attempting to disparage black voters is not the game anyone wants to play in this election. Ask Hillary how far that's gotten her.

16. Obama DID have a Positive effect on the race!
the exit polls clearly indicate it...the repubs even admit it that their attacking Obama was the wrong approach, instead of focusing on the issues...Childers never disowned Obama...he said he never met Obama....and do as he will because it was the repubs who set the table and the voters decided because of it, in a large way....Obama had a positive effect and handed Childers the win, for a seat held by repubs for 13+ years.....

surely you dont think the repubs will be attempting to link local state democrats again to wright considering as how they have now lost 3 straight with this tactic...they are going to retool and just might focus on the issues this time.

11. Their "Birth of a Nation" nightmares are coming true.
As illustrated by Pat Buchanan:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVeFyV0iLrk

May I paraphrase Mr Buchanan?

"LOCK UP YOUR DELICATE LILY WHITE VIRTUOUS DAUGHTERS!1!!1! The scary black man and his black panthers are taking over the NATION!!1!!!

Meanwhile, the rest of our Country moves past the frothing hyperbole of Pat Buchanan and his ilk. In recent memory, the Irish were treated like animals in the USA, lest racists like Pat Buchanan conveniently forget. "NO Irish" or "Irish need not apply" signs use to stain the windows of the USA, but haughty Pat and his brothers of hate, who will toss away Catholic and Protestant rivalry in order to have public melt downs about the potential Presidency of a black man.

Well this lily white Irish/Norwegian mid thirties feminist can't wait to vote for the Democratic nominee that is Barack Obama.

FU Pat Buchanan. If you were from my clan, I'd kick you out.

15. They just tried a miniature version of their November strategy, and got their asses kicked.
And they're in terror because of it.

The black vote is only one part of it. Their smear-and-fear recipe didn't work. Nobody was buying it.

20. The last two Dems to win the White House had huge black voter turnout
That's why the GOP is afraid. Without the black vote we may never have had Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton as Presidents.

22. With the Mississippi loss, the third in a row, the repubs....
who thought they would have the race card to count on in the General Election, have realized that it is a card, when played, has the opposite effect of what they had assumed. They have no "fall-back" plan now and know they are in for very steep losses, imo.
