I strongly agree with what John Edwards said about Hillary Clinton |
|
John Edwards pays tribute to Hillary Clinton
Grand Rapids, Michigan - May 14th, 2008 During the course of this presidential campaign, I've gotten to know the candidates and the top candidates very, very well. We have all been out speaking about the causes that are so near and dear to our hearts as Democrats. And now we're here down to two amazing candidates.
And before -- before I get too far, I want to take just a minute and say a word about my friend and your friend, Senator Hillary Clinton.
In the past few months and weeks -- I've gotten to know Senator Clinton very well. We've talked, we've met in North Carolina. We've talked about the things that she cares about that every single one of you care about -- about the men and women in this country who don't have health care, about the children who don't have health care, about the men and women in America who just want to have a decent job and go to work.
And we've talked about our own children and our own families. And what I've learned during that time -- and I've gotten to know her very well -- is that she believes with every fiber of her being that America can be a better place and that we need change to make America what it's capable of being.
I want to tell you -- and I know this is hard to understand sometimes. But it is very, very hard to get up every day and do what she's done. It is hard to go out there and fight and speak up when the odds turn against you. And what she has shown -- what she has shown is strength and character. And what drives her is something that every single one of us can and should appreciate. She cares deeply about the working people in this country. She cares about the families who are losing everything because somebody got sick. She cares about our men and women who are putting their lives on the line in Iraq and Afghanistan. This tenacity has shown her strength and her determination.
She is a woman who, in my judgment, is made of steel. And she's a leader in this country not -- not because of her husband, but because of what she has done, because of speaking out, because of standing up.
And we, when this nomination battle is over -- and it will be over soon -- brothers and sisters, we must come together as Democrats and in the fall stand up for what matters for the future of America and make America what it needs to be.
And we are a stronger party because Hillary Clinton is a Democrat. We are a stronger country because of her years of public service. And we're going to have a stronger presidential nominee in the fall because of her work.http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0805/14/sitroom.03.htmlI hope that Barack Obama's supporters here on Democratic Underground will take a moment to read and reflect on these words, which were personally applauded by Obama when John Edwards said them in Michigan on Wednesday.

10. I will go with that also. I just want that group of people gone. |
|
I do not like the same people in govt. as a family thing. I like to see people who get their on their own steam. It is that they seem to drag their history and people with them. Such as Bush and all his father's people and RR people. It just bad for the country I think. Hillery will bring along Bill and his people. It can not be helped. We have enough old timers in Congress and Court that we can not get rid of. Some have been around long enough. Many are smart but they have just been around to long. A citizen govt. is a better deal. People in and out of govt. pretty fast.

3. Until she concedes......... |
|
I'm not praising Ms. Clinton. Had she ran a more honorable campaign, I wouldn't hesitate.
So until she is officially out, I'm not passing out compliments that I might wish I hadn't given to begin with. In otherwords, she'll have to earn back the good will that she's lost, from me....anyways.

6. He's never questioned her WMD errors |
|
Her and the rest of the Clinton advisors tell him there's WMD in Iraq which causes him to vote for an illegal war, and he never questions her publicly. Wonder why that is.

13. Attorney General is a fair price for an endorsement. |
|
These are politicians, not saints. And, Obama being the spiteful sweetie I've seen in some of his comments, there is no way Edwards could even be considered for Attorney General without the endorsement.
You don't run a country with the government you wish you had. You run it with the one you're stuck with. We're going to be stuck with Obama.
Hillary will continue to be the gracious, courageous lady she always has been. She'll work for the ticket and swallow the rude, nasty condescension of the Obama camp. She isn't a child.

I wish that would rub off on some Obama supporters here. In any case, it sure was nice to hear someone remind the people that she is a great Democrat and we must remain united or we will be big losers in November. I hope we will see more of him.

14. He was accordingly diplomatic |
|
He said positive things about her that he believed were true.
It is possible (and I believe LIKELY) for him to believe that there are also negative things about her without bringing them up, as any diplomat would do. And I strongly believe it's the negative things that she and her campaign are actively doing and saying against Obama to divide the party that motivated him to take a stand.
I think her slick 'get out the white vote' tactics that were shaping the upcoming narrative about her WV win was the final push that got Edwards to make that commitment to try and help bring this to a close. Edwards said himself last night that "it will be over soon".
NARAL did not want to enter the fray, but did so reluctantly as they saw how fractured the party was becoming. There's a reason their board voted unanimously to make a break with a long-standing history of Clinton support.
For all the positives one might say about Hillary, her negatives helped bring things to where they are today. One doesn't have to mention them, but they exist nonetheless...and they're pushing individuals and groups off the fence.
