**Obama magic number 133.5** Delegate Endorsements Updated
The magic number in the headline is from Obama.com. Details can be found on DemconWatch - the most authoritative source of delegate information.
http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/2008/01/superdelegate-endorsement-notes.html

1) Rep. McDermott (WA) endorses Obama

Rep. Jim McDermott on Thursday became the fourth U.S. House member from Washington to endorse Barack Obama for president.

The Seattle Congressman told the P-I's Joel Connelly that Obama is his pick because "I am confident as president he will end the war in Iraq and bring our sons and daughters home."

McDermott has represented Seattle for 19 years and is one of the more liberal voices in the Democrats' 235-member House caucus. He is the last House member from this state to declare his support for a presidential candidate.

If any Super Delegates or Pledged Delegates announce pls update thread.

Obama's Pelosi Magic Number is 25.

DemconWatch's magic number is 137 and 26.5

37. The will when they make a specific statement here is what they say on background
With John Edwards' endorsement of Barack Obama this evening, the question everyone is asking is, "What happens to Edwards' pledged delegates?"

Well, the first answer, is nothing. As we were reminded yesterday, pledged delegates can vote for anybody at any time. So, rules-wise, Edwards' endorsement is meaningless.

However, from a political and practical viewpoint, pledged delegates will keep their pledge to vote for the candidate they were elected for until "released" by that candidate. By endorsing Obama, Edwards finally ended his campaign, which had been "suspended" up to now, and "released" his delegates to vote for the candidate of their choice. Of course, these delegates may decide to follow their original candidate and support Obama, and Edwards will of course be contacting them to urge them to support Obama. But until these delegates speak up and say who they will be supporting, they will essentially become uncommitted delegates. Which, essentially, makes them no different than superdelegates. (We'll keep them in the Edwards column for now).

So how many Edwards delegates are there? Four from New Hampshire, 8 from South Carolina, and 4 so far from Iowa. (The names are at the bottom of the post).

But wait. That's only 16. The DCW tracker shows Edwards with 19 delegates. Why the difference? It's because Edwards is projected by The Green Papers to get 3 state-wide delegates at the Iowa State Convention on June 14. But as we learned at the Iowa Congressional District Conventions in April, these delegate projections are only estimates. And it's difficult to see the Edwards forces holding together in June. (assuming the race is still going on then). So those final 3 delegates will likely get reassigned to other candidates, leaving Edwards with the 16 delegates described above.

But we're not done yet. Edwards also won 13 delegates in Florida, all at the CD level. (He won only 14.4% of the state-wide vote, so just fell short of getting any state-wide delegates - he would have picked up 9 or 10 delegates if he had hit 15%). Whether he keeps them depends on 1) whether the Florida delegates get seated at all, and 2) under what rules they get seated. That will have to wait for the RBC meeting at the end of the month.

2. did you count the 4 Edwards delegates that just annouced?
I'm assuming he gets all of them.

If he gets 50% of the remaining primary delegates, he will only need 18.5 of the remaining supers to clinch.

I love this countdown

5. Here is the one that announced yesterday
PORTSMOUTH, N.H.—A New Hampshire Democratic Party delegate who had supported John Edwards says he will support Barack Obama, now that Edwards has endorsed his former political rival for the party's presidential nominee.
more stories like this

Joshua Denton of Portsmouth, 26, an Iraq war veteran, says he thinks that both Obama and Hillary Clinton would be a better president than Republican nominee John McCain. He thinks that Obama is the change the country needs, along with having the best chance of beating McCain in the general election.

6. Hey there, I'm so confused.
It seems like the BO.com numbers haven't been updated... like, the Edwards NH delegate should be a pledged delegate for Obama, so that 24, and the switched pledged delegate from Maryland, not inlcuded.
Yuo can see on the results page that the NH and MD numbers are one less than at thegreenpapers

But somewhere, thegreenpapers is also missing delegates. They have total pledged at 1600.5, whereas BO.com has pledged delegates at 1602. I'm thinking that the MD/NH dels make the Pelosi # 23?

8. DCW has added the New Hampshire PD to Obama's total
I'm not sure if Edwards' delegates will show up as anything but a number in the PD column. They now show his total PD's as 10 in NH (in TheGreenPapers) and the total PD's now at 1600.5, so per those sources he needs 136 to reach 2025. Still waiting for the NC delegates to show up there. :-)

Here is DCW's What Happens to Edwards Delegates info:

...However, from a political and practical viewpoint, pledged delegates will keep their pledge to vote for the candidate they were elected for until "released" by that candidate. By endorsing Obama, Edwards finally ended his campaign, which had been "suspended" up to now, and "released" his delegates to vote for the candidate of their choice. If you take the highest value for those primaries, then the PD total is 1604.

Edit, DCW uses thegreenpapers, so that's what I'm talking about.

10. Six of Edwards' eight S.C. delegates back Obama-

The head of John Edwards South Carolina presidential campaign told CNN that at least six of the eight delegates Edwards won in S.C. are ready to vote for U.S. Sen. Barack Obama at the Democratic presidential convention.

Columbia attorney John Moylan appeared on the cable news channel this morning.

Edwards endorsed the campaign of his former rival last night.

Edwards' delegates are free to vote for whichever candidate they choose, but delegate Robert Groce said he would choose Obama.

"I was elected to represent John Edwards. I will honor his request," said Groce, 40 and a Summerville resident. "I'm very comfortable that either one (Obama or U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton) could assume the office and do a good job. The party has really benefitted from having so many good candidates."

Edwards' S.C. delegates plan to release a statement later today.

http://www.thestate.com/breaking/story/406003.html

COLUMBIA, S.C. --
Three of former Sen. John Edwards' delegates to the Democratic convention say they're endorsing Barack Obama.

Edwards' South Carolina campaign chairman John Moylan said Thursday that three others have told him they'd do so.

The movement to support Obama comes a day after the former North Carolina senator publicly endorsed Obama.

Moylan said it's time for Democrats to unify behind a candidate.

she doesn't have her supporters on the rules committee there are people on the committee who are long term party members who happen to support her.

Tomorrow we should know if they have enough delegates backed up to finish it on Tuesday. As soon as they hit 10 delegates today they stopped.
