CWA President (super-delegate) will endorse Obama
http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/05/cwa_president_a_superdelegate.php

Larry Cohen, the president of the Communication Workers of America and a super-delegate from D.C., will endorse Obama today, CWA's communications office confirms to me.

A press release will go out sometime soon. CWA's umbrella union sat out the primary, and had left it up to individual locals to decide whom to endorse.

That brings Obama's count for the day to two. Seattle Rep. Jim McDermott threw his backing to the Illinois Senator today.

More like 4.

In addition, three superdelegates — Reps. James McDermott of Washington, and Henry Waxman and Howard Berman of California — endorsed Obama.

"I believe now is the time to unite behind Barack Obama so we can be in the strongest place possible to win in November," McDermott said.

Waxman said in a statement: "I have the greatest respect and admiration for Senator Clinton and former President Clinton ... It is now clear, however, that the Democratic Party is nearing a broad consensus on our nominee."

4. CWA at IBM - Yes We Can
As a proud member of CWA Local 1701, Alliance@IBM, I'm happy to see brother Cohen's endorsement of Obama.

BTW - many folks don't know that we have a union at IBM. We don't have a contract yet, but we do have an organizing program. IBM is one of those companies that John Edwards was talking about yesterday. They have outsourced thousands of jobs, laid off thousands of US workers over 50 just short of attaining a full pension, eliminated the defined benefit pension for all new hires and froze it for current workers, and have reneged on their promise to retired employees to provide health insurance. Many older retirees now incur medical insurance bills from IBM that are higher than their pension checks.

In you're interested in the CWA's efforts at IBM see
