How much longer will attacks on Obama be tolerated here?
RePubes and "!@#$@#$%^^& " can not just keep posting trashing about our nominee and expect to get away with it because "this race is not over yet".. YES IT IS

Granted I am not sure how the rules work around here, but a democrat site that allows bashing of our nominee is getting old.

I am tired of hearing about Rezko, Write, racism, sexism, and non linked to credible sites - rumors.

When will the mods start shutting this uncalled for BS down?

1. The mods mentioned that the tone of moderation, reflected the tone of the campaign
but now it seems like the tone has dampened over the last week, and if that's true, will decisions about posts here change as well?

2. The Primary Is Still On, Sir
Members who support either candidate are entitled to their say here.

Persons who support Sen. Clinton could doubtless make a similar list of 'horribles' aimed at their candidate.

8. while there are jerks on both sides it appears that tonight there was
a co-ordinated attack using all right wing points that went from Obama being bribed to attacking Michelle. While I wish that some of the Obama threads would stop criticizing Clinton at all I find it difficult to find threads that match the intensity, vile or the organization that appears to be coming from a few Clinton supporters.

Persons on the other side from you find no trouble in locating threads that 'match the intensity, bile, or the organization' you detect in your opponents' activities. You can take the word of the 'cop on the beat' at whatever value you wish, but things seem pretty closely matched from my vantage.

32. there is some symmetry on pure stupidity of course. The use of outlandish right wing attacks that
have surfaced tonight using similar right wing sources to attack on Obama, Obama's involvement in illegal activities and Michelle's 'betrayel' of the country seems to be one sided as the threads that are eventually locked to my eye have all been threads started by far out Clinton supporters.

What is most unfortunate is that they have undermined many other outstanding attempts by Clinton supporters trying to advance a united front.

And yet if we wait until Clinton drops out this could continue until the first ballot of the convention.

In the meantime market shares of Obama and McCain on Intrade are almost identical 92 and 95 so that while vast segments of the country now consider him the presumptive nominee we have to tolerate suggestions that he has taken bribes and his wife is a traitor to the country.

But I thank the moderators for their patience. Obviously they come also with passion and opinions and cannot be happy that a relatively few supporters are able to undermine the efforts of many supporters on both sides to unify for the GE.

36. Outlandish Right Wing Attacks Are Used Against Sen. Clinton, Too, Sir
You will understand it is not possible for me to go into detail about members' behavior, but we routinely encounter recycled "Arkansas Project" materials, and worse, put up in the name of advancing Sen. Obama.

My personal feelings are quite neutral: I have always thought both these two would be excellent candidates and that each would make a great President. We certainly share a desire for unity not only here but in the Party at large, and hope it will come soon.

Otherwise she has virtually no chance in reaching the 2025 delegates she needs to get the nomination.

If she doesn't drop out even after Obama gets 2026, 2210, or whatever, is the primary still "on" then?

She doesn't even have to endorse Obama if she doesn't want to.

After Obama gets 2025 delegates, he's the nominee and that's all there is to it.
Hillary can go argue with Howard Dean and the Democratic party attorneys over Michigan and Florida all she wants.
Her signed pledge is an ironclad, totally enforceable legal document.
She put herself into this position, and now she has to live with it.

She may never admit that she lost, but she got beat.
And that is all there is to it.

How about the Obama suporters who kept posting that "Former Clinton Pastor Convicted Of Child Molestion".? It was a guy from Clinton, NY, with absolutely no connection to the Clintons. Or the guy who posted the other night, after it was reported that Obama called Clinton and got her voicemail that "Clinton refused to come to the phone", and it got over a hundred replies and a ton of recs. Just blatant lies that you guys cheer on, and then you throw a tantrum when someobdy mentions something that's really in the news.

How could she be? All McCain would have to do to win is to put up all of Hillary's ads that attack Obama, to show that even Dems think that Dems are incompetent. She's done all his work for him, making herself ridiculous in the process.

VP Hill is a guarantee of a republican victory in november.

And, she just lies too much..nobody wants an inveterate liar on board.

"Why Hillary’s Lies are Important"

- March 24, 2008, 9:53PM
Hillary Clinton has been caught in a series of lies and misrepresentations during the primary campaign. To some of her supporters, these lies may seem trivial and insignificant and even politics-as-usual. However, please consider the serious impact of these lies by placing them in the context of the past seven years of the Bush Administration and the legacy of expanded executive power that he leaves behind. In particular, consider the dangerous message that the Clinton campaign sends by employing similar tactics to achieve her political goals.

1. The Florida and Michigan Primaries / The Delegate Count
Hillary agreed to honor the DNC’s decision to strip Florida and Michigan of its delegates after their primaries were moved up into January in express violation of the DNC rules. She did not change her position on the validity of these primaries until she found herself unexpectedly behind in the delegate count and desperately needed to claim the delegates that she had won in these unsanctioned contests. As her chances of winning the nomination became increasingly slim in recent weeks, we have been presented with threatening and desperate lines of reasoning for why these primary results should count as is. At the same time, Clinton and her surrogates continue to propose different metrics for determining who should win the nomination even though there is and has been a clearly defined process in place for several decades.

Please think about the implications of changing election rules after the fact. We have suffered through at least one stolen presidential election and the manipulation of untold numbers of Congressional and state elections through various vote tampering and voter intimidation schemes used by the Republicans and their allies. The American people (and especially Democratic voters) have lost faith in the integrity of the election process. The Clinton strategy to continually change the rules for determining the Democratic Party nominee sets a dangerous precedent that could lead to increasingly un-Democratic elections in the future if it is allowed to succeed. If anything, we need more transparency and methods of accountability in our elections in order to repair the damage done in recent years and to restore our confidence in the Government.

2. The Bosnia Fabrication / Exaggerated Experience Claims
Hillary fabricated a story about a dangerous, life-risking visit to Bosnia in order to gain stature as an experienced negotiator in international conflicts and war. While this type of embellishment can seem almost comical, it represents a willingness to distort reality in order to influence the public perception. This is the same type of distortion that the Bush administration used to justify the war in Iraq, although the magnitude of the lie is certainly on a different scale. The Bush administration falsified reports, cherry-picked intelligence, used unreliable sources, and employed fear-mongering tactics to convince the American public that our safety was at risk and as such, you were either with us or with the terrorists. The lies used by President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are impeachable offenses and should be condemned by all Americans. Sadly, the Clinton campaign seems to have shown a shocking willingness to employ the same tactics to create a more favorable reality and to rely on divide-and-conquer rhetoric to weaken opposition. Her attempts to frighten the American people by conjuring up 3 AM phone calls are bad enough, but her vote of confidence in John McCain over Barack Obama should be seen as treason against the Democratic Party.

3. NAFTA
Hillary lied about her position on NAFTA and used her lies in a calculated way to influence the Ohio primary. Recently released White House documents confirm that Hillary had been an active proponent of NAFTA prior to its passage, and she has continued to support it publicly in her speeches and memoir. However, while campaigning in Ohio, she claimed to have been privately against NAFTA during the Clinton presidency and believes that it should be rewritten to protect American jobs and workers. This type of maneuvering is reminiscent of the behind-closed-doors policy-making that the Bush administration has used during the past seven years. Specifically, Bush and Cheney have made policy decisions without providing transparency to Congress or the public, and President Bush has repeatedly ignored the rule of law by issuing signing statements and disregarding the parts of the laws that he doesn’t agree with. If we cannot trust Hillary to be truthful about her positions on critical legislative issues now, how can we trust that she will be truthful as president?

These are just three examples that illustrate the concerns we should have with a candidate who demonstrates a sense of entitlement to the nomination and is willing to lie, misrepresent, threaten, and divide in order to obtain the nomination. President Bush and the neoconservative movement have greatly harmed this country by the creation of an imperial-like presidency. This election is not just about whether a Democrat or Republican wins but if the checks and balances are restored to the three branches of government. The framers of the Constitution were in such fear of an imperial president that mechanisms for impeachment are prominently and explicitly included in the Constitution. If Hillary Clinton is willing to use lies and deceit to win the Democratic nomination, what assurances do we have that she will not continue to use them once she is president?
http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/03/why-h ...

<snip>

"Her response to being caught lying to a military audience, when she invented a story about being under sniper fire in Bosnia, was to say it wasn't surprising she got some things wrong, seeing how she spoke millions of words every day. What a magnificent idea, that if you say lots of words some of them are bound to be fantastic lies. So if you listen carefully to horse-racing commentators they say things like "And it's Teddy's Boy still leading three furlongs out as they come up to the fourth last fence with Nip and Tuck two lengths behind by the way I fought a tiger once, punched it clean out and they're all safely over."

<lots more>
http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/opinion/article3 ...

"It's not that lying to pad the resume, avoid Indictment or to advance her political fortune is anything new for Hillary Clinton. She famously said she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary (debunked); she told New Yorkers she was a Yankee fan when she lived in Chicago (debunked); she told rural New Yorkers that she was a "duck hunter" (debunked); she claimed that her daughter Chelsea was jogging around the World Trade Center at the time of the 9/11 attack (debunked by Chelsea herself.) And, those subpoenaed Rose Law billing records just happened to show up one day on a hallway table in the most monitored home in America!"

18. Obama can take it
You don't run for President of the United States by being a milquetoast. Surely, the virtual slings and arrows coming from this corner of the web are of no consequence to the senator or to his supporters, are they?

Which "attacks" do you suggest be stopped? All of them? Or just the ones you deem unacceptable? Doesn't sound inviting for discussion. Granted, there are some absurd statements made about both candidates on either side. But the only ones not allowed are the ones in violation of DU rules. Unless Obama registers as a member of DU, he is fair game for 'attacks', whether rational or not.

Until this primary is over, and the nomination is official, his critics have the floor.

By hanging out in the lounge.

I'll tell you this - if McCain starts a swiftboat-style smear of Obama, and Obama rolls over like Kerry did, you better believe I will post some "Obama attacks". I'll be sure to tell him to stand up and kick McCain right in his shrivelled old nads. Now, I think Obama will stand up to him, but if he doesn't, there will be hell to pay around here. I'll be sure to make my deposit.

So 'anti-Obama' posts won't necessarily disappear after the nomination is official. They'll just take on a new tack. As well they should. We try not to be obedient sheep around here. That's what separates us from the authoritarians in the Republican camp.

63. Here's some background on the "Democrat Party" discussion
http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2006/08/07/060807ta_talk_hertzberg

Using "Democrat Party" rather than "Democratic Party" is seen by many as a slur on the party b/c it is used by wingnuts like Delay to talk shit on the party. Used in that way, it actually dates back as far as McCarthy. I did cringe recently when I voted in the primary and the sign on the ballot box set "Democrat Ballots Go Here"- I was wondering if the signs had been made by the local Repug officials.

I think many who use it don't intend any ill by it, though, and just aren't aware of any of the negative associations with the term.

37. Please do not call out the Admins and the Mods, they are doing
an excellent job keeping DU a place to still visit. The Primary voting is not over yet and we still do not have an official nominee. Let the rest of the States vote. I am all for Senator Clinton to continue even though I am an Obama supporter.

48. Please calm down, I understand how you feel, however, the Admins
and the Mods are trying their best. It is only a matter of time, please hang in there and let us try to unify Dems. I usually ignore the obnoxious threads especially when I see the name of the Poster. This Primary has gone on for too long, but it will be over pretty soon, I hope, so that Dems can unify. Both sides are equally obnoxious but for the past two days, it seems like a calculated effort to bring down Senator Obama. Not only progressive, moderate Americans want him to be the next President, the world wants him too and your neighbor in Canada also wants him. Lots of us in Canada are rooting for him. Regards.

50. This is the kind of post that gets supporters of Senator Obama angry,
you are not doing your candidate any good by posting such vitriol. Take a break from here, walk in the park, touch the flowers, smell the air! It would do you a world of good. Me, am ecstatic that Edwards endorsed Obama.

if Obama and his supporters just started their own political party. Then they could write their own rules and force everyone to march in lock-step.

Until then, you're stuck with us democracy-loving Dems.

Face facts, there's currently only a 1% difference in the popular vote for Obama and Clinton and that's due to change soon. Our dear forefathers foresaw such situations and created a concept called "conventions" where elected representatives of the party could meet, discuss and reach consensus about who the party should nominate.

Bless their hearts, they created a great solution. Let's use it.

And that should put Obama over the top and give him the nomination.
Failing that, June 3rd is the date of the last primary.
That should be the last day.

71. When the nominee is confirmed at the convention.
That's when this ends. Kerry-bashing of all kinds was permitted until the day during the '04 convention when he was officially confirmed as the nominee. Then it stopped and DU got behind the nominee. Being the presumptive nominee (which Obama still isn't, by the way - Clinton's extreme unlikeliness isn't equivalent to impossibility) means nothing.

In August he IS the nominee.

And being the presumptive nominee does mean something, at least on this forum: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4798898&mesg_id=4798898

74. I'll post the truth all the way up until Obama makes the magic number,
when the truth will be silenced.

Criticism, when it's true, isn't trash.

Obama is not yet "our" nominee.

While the vast majority of our visitors are Democrats, this web site is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, nor do we claim to speak for the party as a whole.

76. The truth?
The truth is that our options in the fall will be Obama or McCain. You can vote for Nader, Barr, or whoever, and it doesn't matter to us.

"Obama is too conservative compared to my views" isn't truth, it's your damn opinion.

79. You do that a lot, don't you?
Who is the "us" you refer to? Are you speaking for the entire party, or for all of DU, AGAIN?

The truth:

Obama is peddled as a non-dlc choice because he's not a member, when his platform and record fit the dlc like a glove.

Evidence is readily available to anyone who wants to look. Take the time to compare his platform and rhetoric with what you'll find at the "Progressive Policy Institute."

Or don't. Keep misrepresenting him.
