Is Mark J. Green Jewish?
Since he was on Chris' show yesterday talking about Israel and supporting Obama, I was wondering if he was Jewish? I thought he was, but his wiki profile doesn't mention this. I have a feeling Bush's comments are going to piss a lot of American Jews off.

8. Yeah, I heard Waxman come out against it.
The reason I ask is because you constantly hear Obama has a Jewish problem and I think the Repubs hope this plays right into it.

I don't believe it will.

16. I agree with you, except for those Jews who are neocons, it won't matter
even in the 2004 election, 70% of the Jewish vote went to Kerry

The other problem the republicans have is that Ron Paul is not going to sit quiet during their convention, and bob barr is going to run as a libertarian

going to be an interesting election

Hopefully, not too interesting

Most of the towns that Obama won in have major Jewish populations, like Brookline and my own Newton.

23. I didn't know Obama won there
:bounce:

And that's with Barney Frank on the radio every 10 minutes (no joke if you're a faithful WBZ listener).

I know Obama won Boston pretty big, but I didn't think to include bordering cities.

And Barney is becoming a tool. Last year we were at a local house party and Frank screamed at a buddy of mine who asked about impeachment (only a year after Frank himself suggested impeachment.)

Might be time for a replacement in the House - given the personality of the locals, it might take a gay black hermaphroditic dwarf to unseat Barney (we are a bit eccentric, it's true).

9. He has called himself Jewish on his radio show
"Seven Days in America" or whatever it's called. I'm not a big fan of what he's done to Air America, but at least he was sounding reasonable on the Tweety show.....at least when he had the rare opportunity to speak in that particular shouting match.

20. That was classic and Mark Green obviously knew
the answer. Have to thank Tweety for highlightening the vast difference between appeasement and Diplomacy with your so-called enemies that the bushits make sure we get :scared: about.

I was happy to find out Mark Green was for Obama..I thought I remembered differently.

10. As A Matter Of Curiousity, Sir
You consider support for Israel an indicator a person is a Jew?

12. Nope.
This goes beyond Israel and mostly centers around the fact many believe Obama struggles with Jewish support. I think the Republicans were hoping to use this as a tool against Obama with the Jewish vote.

Oh and to scare up support for McSame.

25. Would you agree that news channels often use Jews to be spokespersons on Israel issues?
Edited on Fri May-16-08 08:40 PM by TexasObserver
More often than not, a person considered an expert on Israel is a Jew who has a reputation for advancing the cause of Israel. AIPAC has an army of spokespeople who appear on news channels.

It certainly would not be surprising if a Mr. Green speaking on cable news about Israel were Jewish. That would be more likely than not based upon reality, not mere supposition.

As for the support of Israel being an indicator that a person is a Jew, you frame the issue incorrectly. The relevant question is whether on issues of Israel news channels typically use Jews to represent what might be considered the pro Israel position. As a matter of fact, most Americans who support Israel are not Jews, but fundamentalist Christians who believe the Bible and the provisions which they believe mandate the holy land for a Jewish state as a precondition to the return of Jesus they believe it will bring about. Most of the time, those people are not the ones whose opinions are sought by media on the issue of Israeli politics.

In summary, a supposition that the person who is opining regarding Israel on cable news is Jewish is logical and probable, not the reverse. Besides, the inference that you drew was not one implied by the writer. The OP stated that he was watching someone he identified as a Mr. Green who speaking as an Obama supporter about a topic related to Israel. The writer failed to provide you with the nexus in his thought process, which was his desire to show that Obama has good support among Jews. He was asking a simple question - Is Green Jewish? His intent appears to have been to confirm his supposition, and use that information to shore up his argument that Jews do, indeed, support Obama.

I'm suggesting you overreacted to an innocuous statement and presumed intent not present.

>>>I have a feeling Bush's comments are going to piss a lot of American Jews off. >>>>

They do this every election: try to chop off a chunk of a traditionally DEM constituency by raising doubts about support of Israel. If Kerry scored about 70%, Obama should do about the same.

Re. Green: Huge talent; great intellect; largely unrecognized by the NY electorate which tends to favor moneyed celebrity demagogues like Bloomberg and Clinton.

Green's also a *nice* guy. Notice how he laid off that buffoon on Mathews' show and even tried to throw the poor guy a lifeline.
