Obama Intensifies Criticism of Republicans' McCain (Update1)
Barack Obama intensified his criticism of presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain with the approach of the May 20 Democratic presidential primaries that may allow him to claim he's locked up a majority of delegates picked by voters.

Campaigning in Oregon today and South Dakota yesterday, Obama linked McCain, 71, to President George W. Bush's record on everything from gasoline prices and the war in Iraq to tax cuts for the wealthy ``that never trickle down to you.''

......

During a town hall forum in Roseburg, Oregon, today, Obama defended his position that he would be willing to meet unconditionally with the leaders of hostile nations such as Iran during his first year in office.

``If George Bush and John McCain have a problem with direct diplomacy led by the United States then they can explain why they have a problem with John F. Kennedy because that's what he did with Khrushchev,'' said Obama, referring to the former Soviet leader.

.....

McCain is ``promising four more years of the exact same foreign policy that George Bush has been perpetrating,'' said Obama, including a war that's cost thousands of lives and trillions of dollars and which he called ``the best recruiting tool al-Qaeda ever had.''

He also said Osama bin Laden is still sending out videotapes and that Iran poses the greatest threat to Israel and the U.S. in a generation. ``This is his idea of strong leadership and strong judgment,'' said Obama.

He also attacked McCain on health care, saying he has no plan to cover all Americans and no plan to prevent insurance companies from denying coverage to individuals who need it.

1. Well, I see DU is clearly not interested in fighting McCain. Thanks for trying, Sniffa. My
thought is that the powers that be around here seriously need to consider what this place has devolved into.

2. Additionally: McCains remarks about Obama today were HORRENDOUS and deserve some attention..
I'll look later to see if I can find a transcript, heard them on CNN Ballot Bowl.

7. thanks, I would appreciate that .
I caught some of McCain on Ballot Bowl today, but honestly, his voice is so grating that I couldn't watch it for very long. I know that sounds immature, but it's the honest to god truth. It's not just the sound of his voice, but the unsteadiness of it really unsettles me.

3. "the best recruiting tool Al Qaeda ever had"
Brilliant. I am thrilled Obama is talking like this; it's about time a Democrat call Bush and the GOP on their bullshit.

I kept telling people Obama would be a different animal in the GE against McCain. He's already proving me right. :bounce:

10. May I repeat this great statement made by Obama
McCain is ``promising four more years of the exact same foreign policy that George Bush has been perpetrating,'' said Obama, including a war that's cost thousands of lives and trillions of dollars and which he called ``the best recruiting tool al-Qaeda ever had.''

Barack Obama 5/16/2008

Another way to say it:

John McCain knows the Iraq war created Iraq al-Qaeda. And now he wants to give them more time to recruit and train by continuing the war. Whose side is McCain on anyway?
