Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Sam Nunn on his support for Barack Obama
I know, I know, this could be posted on Editorials and Other Articles, but I think it belongs here:

". . . Nunn’s top priority is the restoration of the United States’s credibility in the world. You can’t imagine, he said, how much damage the war in Iraq has done.

What must be regained, the senator said, is a non-partisan approach to foreign policy. McCain doesn’t represent change. Hillary Clinton, Nunn said, would find the task difficult — a president who polarizes at home would find it hard to create a unified foreign policy abroad.

Nunn said he’s talked with Obama. But he was also swayed by the good reports about the candidate from Republicans — including the staff of U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), former chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Lugar has served as Nunn’s partner in a 17-year program to corral the world’s “loose nukes.”

“Lugar’s staff tell me is genuine, he’s sincere, he’s very capable and not only is he a fast learner, but he’s got real depth,” Nunn said. . . ."

Depth from a president. Imagine that. Nice change, I would say.

1. Sam Nunn. Highly unliked by DUers.
He's Right of Lieberman in many ways.

Now you like him.

4. On foreign policy, he has credibility.
I posted this without much comment.

Obviously, you are one of the dwindling number of Obama haters here.

Interesting.

Many Obama supporters don't seem to be a bit blind.

Or are wearing blinders.

8. Biden, Nunn, Webb, and maybe some others
will play vital roles in this election. The only issue the GOP has (after Rev. Wright) is terra, terra, terra. They will come at Obama every day and every way with that. Obama will be making, calm, rational arguments while the O'Reillys and McCains are screaming "TERRA" at him.

Biden, Nunn, and Webb all have some credibility on foreign affairs, and are largely sees as reasonable people. In particular, Biden and Nunn are seen as wise elders on world affairs, and they will play a vital role in deflecting the "TERRA" attack.

The other parts of Nunn's background aren't particularly relevant. He isn't recognized as a world class expert in any other area, and will not be questioned about those things.

2. This gets me in trouble here every time I say it
Flame away, but I have enormous respect for Sam Nunn. I've met the man, have had the opportunity to have a conversation with him, and I'm convinced that he's a genuinely decent guy, with his heart in the right place. I know some of his policies get him pretty well roasted around here "OMGDLCOMG!!!", but I happen to think very highly of him.

3. Most politicians can be very charming and persuasive that has
served them well. Sam Nunn wants open borders and amnesty. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a globalist.

10. Nunn is a right wing bigot. We didn't used to like him around here,
but now that he has said nice things about Obama he's a great guy.

Funny how that works.
