1968..... and Bobby Kennedy... that was the last time
you saw crowds like the one today in Portland.

Thought I'd mention this especially for the young'ins who at no fault of their own, have had no history taught to them.

And for folks of my generation (who were in diapers) but should know better

This is the level of excitement that can change a nation

12. No. I fear it's about time for them to start showing their true colors
by going after Obama, big time.

If they can keep the general election close, be prepared for our third stolen presidential election.

Why in the hell didn't our "leaders," including Clinton and Obama, address the theft of the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections?

I can hear the talking heads explaining away the third stolen election in a row by saying, "When finally confronted with making a choice in the privacy of the voting booth, the American people just couldn't bring themselves to vote for an African American" or "couldn't bring themselves to vote for a woman," as the case may be.

18. i will vote, but expect McCain to win, since Diebold gets quite the vote
For the first time since I was 18... I KNOW my vote is not mine, but for others to steal.

Yep, grew somewhere else, where that practice was common... and we still voted

19. Compare to Obama's crowd
I was looking for that pic and didn't find it. But you can compare it to today's crowd and see that Obama had more people, and without Leo DiCaprio or Bon Jovi. Plus the thousands of people on the bridge, the river and who couldn't get in at all.

28. MSNBC is saying 65,000 showed up today.
50,000. 65,000. 75,000. I lived in D.C. long enough to take any crowd estimates with a grain of salt.

31. LOL! A favorite trick of our corporate press. When we were protesting
against going into Iraq, they would show a closeup of our speakers in DC; but not the crowds which numbered in the tens, or more likely hundreds, of thousands. Then in order to be "fair" they would show the pro-Iraq Invasion speakers, but not the fifty or so people (including at least on one occasion Geoff Gannon!) who dutifully showed up!

Buckle your seatbelt. It's going to be a bumpy campaign!

10. Reaching for the damn historian's hat....
we have a candidate emerge about once a generation that creates excitement... and we have one in a lifetime that is just incredible

As an observer of this campaing... no I am not in love... Obama is quickly reaching the level of a lifetime Phenomenon

And yes he (and Hillary) are damn centrist for my taste, but i still remind myself that FDR ran on a highly centrist platform

11. Your Right
Barack Obama is Barack Obama. You don't take an orginal and compare it to another original. You only take weaker men and compare them to Great Men. Great men stand beside each other.

7. I'm way too cynical to fall in love with any candidate
(Thanks George)

But if this is the crowd of primary and the Kerry photo is of the GE and it is 30K less people I will stand by what I said

These crowds come about once a generation or so

8. Good news
McCain wants to aggresively target Oregon and Washington by pretending to care about the enviroment. It fails big time with Obama as the nominee. So he's going to waste money there for nothing. Also, everytime he pretends to care a Freeper's head explodes because their nominee believes in global warming and they move towards Barr.

14. You are correct, but that is because he is barack Obama, to expect
a second coming of a political or religious figure is quite millenarian

But both have this in common... the young are voting and the young believe in the dream, the dream those of us who have seen this movie before, are way too cynical to believe in but hope, for all our collective sakes, to be proven wrong

27. With all the authority and gravitas of an anonymous screen name.
I've been "in the game" since Nixon/McGovern, and the only time "my" candidate has won the presidency was in 1976. Watching the media, congress, then Reagan take him apart was a difficult thing. Voting the party line and hoping for the best has been the general rule.

Obama is the first one since who is tough enough, good enough, smart enough, to be "my" candidate and make a difference. That's one opinion, but based upon a whole lot of experience.

22. Can't judge a campaign by the size of its rallies
Mondale in 1984 ended his campaign in Massachusetts with a huge rally, topping anything that Reagan had done in the state. But Mondale lost badly in Massachusetts. So don't judge a campaign by its rallies.

Check out this story:
