Could Shrub pull a Lyndon Johnson ? |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-09-04 08:55 AM by Spinzonner
There's not much time left before the Republican COnvention but there is SOME time and if his numbers start accelerating downward as iot approaches, do you think there is any chance he could decide to fall on his sword for the good of the party ?
It seems contrary to his nature and it's not clear Dick or Karl would let him but ...
At this point who could take his place ? The only possibility would seem to be McCain.
What effect would that have on the race ?

2. Forget about Rove not letting him |
|
You know that Dick won't let him--he likes being in charge too much.
BTW, what is the origin of Cheney's nickname Crashcart?

3. LBJ dropped out during the primaries |
|
Right after losing New Hampshire, I believe. Enough time to prop up his guy Humphrey.

5. a little known fact--LBJ won the NH primary as a write-in |
|
He wasn't on ballot in NH only McCarthy was, but he did have an organized write in movement and he won the primary 49-42 percent. But because McCarthy got over 40% against a sitting president, even one who was not on the ballot, he got a bounce and that encouraged RFK to run. LBJ withdrew just prior to Wisconsin primary which, polls indicated, would have gone solidly to McCarthy.

4. No. He would have to have both a |

conscience and some sense of guilt and responsibility for what he has done.

6. There is zero chance of that happening. |
|
It's far more likely that the democratic convention will nominate LBJ to run this year.

They have a plan.
1) Let the attack dogs loose. SBV4T are just the first, there will be more.
2) Terra terra terra - be afraid.
3) But see, we are rolling up the terror network!
4) Push Iraq and Abu Ghraib off the front page, push Rumsfeld and Wolfie into the background, bring out, as much as possible, Powell and Kindasleezy (they will remind people how affirmative action minded the administration is)
5) Only have to keep it close, and then only in the electoral vote. That's easy, they have 40 to 45 percent of the sheeple with them now, and it won't get too much worse.
6) Pull the same shit as 2000, disenfranchise as many minority voters as you can.
7) Nader, Nader, Nader - help Ralph get on as many ballots as possible, split the democratic vote.
8) BBV - Diebold evil plan
9) October surprise (either terra attack or Bin Laden arrest, whichever the figure will win them the election, yet maintain the war on terror going forward).
It's a good plan. I don't know if it will work, but it only has to be a little bit effective to win it for them. Let's not be overconfident.

They want to win at ANY COST.
We just want to win.
There is a big difference.

9. No. He and KKKarl have some godawful dirty trick up their sleeve |
|
They'll still try to pull it off.
LBJ knew he had fucked up BIGTIME on escalating Vietnam. He felt horrible about it. Bush* has no morals and no interest in what is best for the US
He only wants power and he doesn't care what he has to do to maintain it.
