Clinton supporters won't vote for Obama because they are racist? |
|
It seems the highest percentage of Hillary supporters who won't support Obama are in WV and KY. Seems pretty obviously based on race since the two of them share the same positions on everything.
I know how fashionable it is to say it is all about sexism but is that a smokescreen for the real issue we dare not talk about? Racism?

Not even in those two states - in my opinion.
And I pray that I'm not wrong.

your state may vary depending on the populace. I don't want a ring kissed. i wanted him to come and tell me who and what he is, and look him in the eye when he said it. imagine that, someone wanting their candidate to be accessible and concerned. You know someone who you fell confident in representing your country and your welfare. We don't do rock stars, we want the real deal.

what is with this state identity thing? I'm an American.
And I've given my money to Obama this year.
And I want him to spend it wisely.
He should go where he needs to go to win.
That's why I donated.
Not so he can kiss the ring of a bunch of people who think of themselves as West Virginians first and Americans second.
These arguments don't ring true to me.
I still think it sounds like racism.

The fact that he's been able to mobilize such a large number of people under his banner of "new politics" and "getting rid of the game" is a more powerful force than whatever experience might have been gained from working the "old politics."
It's easy to say "untried, inexperienced" but very hard to say "black." At least in polite circles.

It's not about the race. It's not about winning. It's not about voting for someone so that you can do victory laps yelling "I voted for Obama so I could prove I'm not a racist."
It's about actually running the country after the election is over. That's where Obama and his lack of experience gets in trouble. This country is in such deep trouble that I doubt that whoever and which party comes out the winner will get a second term. Four years from now I would have had confidence that Obama had some experience.

|
That's the way you get things done, is to tell people the truth in a way they can accept it and trust you to tell them the truth in the future. It's not the power of one man (or woman) that makes the Presidency, it's the power of the citizens of this nation, building consensus. Reagan had this ability in a negative way, and I think Obama's got it in a positive way.

|
the Presidency to marshall the will of the American people to start doing the right things: Support diplomacy, live sustainably, build community, lead the world by example. I'm convinced Obama, through the powers of his persuasion, can mobilize (there's that word again) citizens of this nation to do better than we have done under Bush, and better than we would do under Hillary Clinton as well.

There are a lot of people that are on the fence that have been mislead by surface impressions that will go with McCain. He has been portrayed as a "middle of the road" kind of candidate, when that is not actually true. Unfortunately, there will be many that will go with McCain, not necessarily out of racism or sexism, but just because he may represent the "status quo" (as in safe, no change, don't rock the boat). Does this make sense?

It is very hard to be truly informed in this media-saturated society we are now in. Just because we saw it on the internet or T.V. does not necessarily make it so. I don't have religion, so my best bet is to consult my Ouija board! Or go and look at kitty pictures in the lounge--I'm not that good at making a definitive statement!

she told the racists they were "hardworking americans..white americans" she told the older women, they were picked on, mistreated she told the uneducated poor folks, it was not their fault..and they should believe her..not economists or scientists
they're voting for Hillary, white woman..patron saint of the undereducated, racist, and wimmin-folk ..and since SHE'S a democrat, it must be OK for them to agree with her, and okay to speak out
She gave them all "permission" to call themselves "mainstream" and to tell CNN stuff like :
Obama should start being less black (this AM on CNN)
and it allows media to continue to ask Obama how he will "win these people over"..
Instead of asking HER why SHE cannot win when the voters are educated and multi-cultural ..
The media seems to think that Obama should attend Klan meetings or backwoods lodge meetings and try to win voters.. I'm sure he's aware that there are just some people who would NEVER vote for him..
Kudos to HIM, for not wasting time & money or endangering his life by trying to woo racists & narrowminded bigots..

Post like these make me want to use words that would get me banned. And I just joined. Just got done reading the rules less than an hour ago.
It makes me sad to hear my fellow democrats call other members of their party racist and sexist. It makes me feel like maybe it's better if the republicans win in November because if we are this petty, then perhaps we are not ready to be part of the party in power. A sizeable minority of republicans would have preffered if Mike Huckabee or Mitt Romney had been their party's nominee. If they can rally around the choice their voters made, why can't we?
Personally I think that people who support Hillary and people who support Obama do so for different reasons, and that's why it's so difficult for each camp to understand the choice of the other side. People who support Hillary like her experience, and like the fact that she's a tenacious fighter. They want someone who will take the fight to the republicans in the fall and will give the republicans bac everything they dish out. They feel more confident of victory in the fall with her at the top of the ticket. They also believe that someone who is going to be president should be able to deal with criticism and pressure.
But the very things that Hillary supporters like about Hillary are the things that make Obama supporters prefer Obama. A lot of Obama supporters are people who are turned off by Hillary the fighter. They are tired of all the fighting of the past 8 years. They are political idealists who still believe that it's possible to run a government without constant political infighting, and that the person most qualified to be president shouldn't be the greatest fighter but rather the person with the greatest vision.
There is no good or bad choice when supporting Hillary or Obama, just different points of view that come from the fact that unlike the republican party, the democratic party is a party of people of different backgrounds coming together with common beliefs.
But I think that this long bitter campaign has made us forget many of the things we have in common. We all think that things like better education, and better healthcare are more important than telling the terr'ists to "Bring it on" We all believe that you shouldn't draw up an environmental policy based on your meetings with automobile industry lobbyists. And almost all of us believe that the money that has been spent to invade Iraq to remove non-existent wmd would have been better spend on programs that would reduce college tuition.
I think it's sad that this primary campaign has highlighted our differences and made us forget all about the things we share. It's time for people to stop criticizing the candidate they don't like. Let the primaries play out, and then support the winner.

69. most Hillary supporters are against sexism and racism |

let's not let a lot of knuckleheads among what is likely at best a conservative Democrat (but Republican voting) constituency make us think otherwise.
i think had she said, "if you are voting for me because of my opponent's race, i don't want your vote..." i think she'd be 200,000 votes ahead of where she is now.

74. Nonsense. One is racist if one talks about racism. Didn't you get the memo? |

One is a racist for asking Obama any questions...*any* questions. Unless they compliment his cultivated persona. One is a racist for wishing Obama'd have done something other than just skate around the rink for month after month after month playing Mr. Too Cool and pointing his thin, professorial finger at DC, a place he covets most dear. Or come out of his pom-pom university gymnasiums where he routinely promised help with tuition funding...yeah, no surprise' there :eyes:
Race-baiting racism as is found in OP's such as this, are of a more dangerous variety imo. They solve no problems, while answering no questions as to just how Obama will be winning tracts of the American body politic after having made fun, light, sport, discount, and derision between Americans by calling them racist, saying indeed point-blank, "Fuck Them!!".
"You're a racist" is the new, "You're not a patriot", it cheapens racism down to a slogan, it's too g.w. bush imfo, and after eight years and counting of republican's toying with America I am done with it.
When it should be understood instead that racism comes in all colors.

80. What about Obama supporter Michelle Bernard? |

She stated on national TV on Monday that if the super delegates did not go with Obama, there would be "race riots in the streets." Now that's what I call playing the "race card."

86. 19% of her KY voters admitted that race was a major issue, but |
|
she also does well in that demographic anyway and KY and WV have very little of Obama's demographic. Racism is certainly an issue, but it's not the entire issue.
