About the "Monica" attack on Senator Clinton |
|
Edited on Wed May-21-08 12:24 PM by Boojatta
1. Given that Senator Clinton was the victim of both her husband and the women with whom her husband committed adultery, isn't the attack simply an attempt to blame the victim?
2. If Monica is alleged to be a victim, then what is she the victim of?
Guess A: She's the victim of the fact that the adulterous relationship didn't continue indefinitely.
It's certainly reasonable to presume that William Jefferson Clinton recognized that Senator Clinton would want the adulterous relationship to end. Thus, is Senator Clinton to blame for making her husband feel that adultery was unacceptable?
Guess B: Senator Clinton somehow influenced Monica so that Monica would tell at least one person about the adulterous relationship. Otherwise the adulterous relationship would have remained secret and Monica wouldn't be a victim. That sounds rather absurd.

17. When has Obama or his campaign ever mentioned Monica? |
|
Not that I recall.
If you are talking about DUers, it should be noted that a lot of us think Monica is not a legitimate campaign issue, and say so whenever someone posts a thread about it.

3. I'm one of the few that has always seen her as a victim |
|
Monica, that is. She was 21, he was 50 and to say there was a power imbalance in their relationship is to put it mildly. There can be more than 2 victims in a given situation.
Furthermore, it's hardly a secret that Hillary and Bill went after the women he'd either had affairs with or harassed.

For example, it was brought up in this thread: Is the very idea of a running mate sexist? It's difficult to see any connection to the Original Post except for the fact that the Original Post mentioned Hillary Clinton.

13. We're supposed to imagine Bill running wild in the White House halls... |

...wildly humping anything warm and slow. I don't see it as an attempt to blame Senator Clinton, but rather to frighten voters away.

20. I have no idea who has mounted this argument here at DU and have not made it my business to project |
|
this subject out to everyone else.
I have made an argument about Monica and Chelsea during this election and the Clintons during this election, but not on DU because there is something about thou shalt not speak poorly of a Democrat on this board which has restrained me. I admit to being vicious in my critique of Bill, Hillary and Chelsea's responses to the questions students were asking her.
Tell me where there are people debating this point or any relative point concerning the students raising the question to Chelsea, Monica being fair game because the Clintons have driven us THAT CRAZY, and impeachment as a means of handling the Republicans' anger over the legislation Clinton was blocking.
I will not do here at this forum, but once Hillary took the gloves off and started saying she would not sit in THAT CHURCH and taking the kitchen sink out I said no holds barred on this piece of work. I still feel that way, but like this forum enough not to want to be banned from it.
