I don't know where she goes from here. I don't know how you coax her back in off the ledge where's left herself. She has not only lost the Democratic Presidential nomination today, but also done incalculable damage to her long-term political viability and, by extension, to the legacy of her husband.

Contrary to some of the more hysterical posts this evening, Hillary was not suggesting that Obama should be assassinated. But she was basically saying that she's not leaving the campaign trail now because, as we learned with RFK in 1968, something terrible could happen and somebody has to pick up the ball. It wasn't so much outrageous and despicable as it was creepy and weird -- and none of those are adjectives that come to mind when picking a president.

If Hillary has any political friends remaining (and they seem to be dwindling daily), they need to conduct an intervention, because she is apparently the only person in American who doesn't understand that her campaign is over. Done. Ended. The only question how is whether the same could be said for her political career.

2. its like the crazy person on the street, people flee from them
no one will dare get near her and try to speak with her.

The flood of supers should start asap.

Any that were sticking with her - are really stuck - in a bad kind of way.

3. You Obamaniacs are Crazy
You have taken complete leave of your senses. You have lost the ability to fair-minded and reasonable. No fair-minded and reasonable person could react in the way you have to what were completely innocent and in fact truthful remarks about how long democratic primaries have gone on in the past. You have completely discredited yourselves with this nonsense.

4. Fair and truthful?
So she's in essence saying because he's half black he'll be assassinated...sorry, but there are just as many crazy people out there hating a half black man being President as there are hating a woman President. She's no less in danger than he is.

5. You don't actually believe this do you?
If you do, you belong in deep, deep therapy, because you have taken complete leave of your senses.

10. She should suspend her Secret Service she's had since 1992
since she thinks making comments like that is ok.
Maybe she forget the Secret Service is there to take a bullet for her dumbass
perhaps she actually started to believe their job was to pump her fucking gas!

6. when was the first primary in 1996? So that was untruthful of her. Aside from her murder wishes?
1992 Feb-June = 4 months

2008 Jan- ???? More than 4 months

11. Look again at what she said...
She's basically saying that she's staying in the campaign because something bad, like a political assassination, might occur and she wants to be ready in that event. You don't have to be an Obama supporter to find that more than just a little bit morbid and creepy. In fact, if you're not in the least bit disturbed by comment like that, you yourself might be the one who as "lost the ability to be fair-minded and reasonable."

17. hey, DLC, your candidate is TOAST--her latest remarks are just part of the cumulative effect
of a crappy candidate running a crappy campaign backed by crappy greedhead fake "Democrats" whose mission is so like that of the Republicans--invasion of innocent countries, plundering of their resources, backroom deals with 3rd-world dictators, outsourcing of natural resources, jobs, and infrastructure, media distortions and propaganda, trashing of social programs, backward/unprogressive energy policy--that they are indeed Republicans.

Why don't you just start a DLC Clinton Party and show us how "fair-minded and reasonable" people would run things?

22. If you think you live in a fair minded and reasonable country you must
not live in the USA.

Every nutbag in the world perked up when they heard her say it.

In this country, murder is entertainment, for Christ's sake.

9. So very well said. Short, sweet, and precise.
I don't think she will withdraw from politics, ever. I have no trouble believing she won't continue to go after other offices, but I don't picture her on the 08 Obama ticket, that's for sure. She's poisoned that completely, I should think.

13. Yes, almost bizarre.
I have repeatedly and glibly quipped that "Inviting the Clintons to be on his VP ticket would be like Obama adopting The Menendez Brothers."

Silly me, I thought is was SATIRE. :silly:

19. One would like to think it's just the fatigue...
I mean, you spend enough sixteen hour days on the stump, you're bound to let fly with some pretty unfortunate quotes. But as KO documented last night, she's said this before. It appears that her campaign strategy is to keep circling the Obama Campaign like a vulture, hoping that something bad happens.

15. One disagreement. "and, by extension, to the legacy of her husband"
he did it to himself. Hillary didn't put all those nasty words in his mouth.

Maybe I still have a soft spot for her but I blame him more than I blame her. From a purely TACTICAL point of view, neverminding my political differences with her, she should have told him the same thing Al Gore did, "I'll campaign as my own person, without your help". I think if Hillary was making all her decisions alone, she wouldn't be in so big a mess right now.

He, and many of his 'hangers on', have done her no favors. She's a smart enough woman without him.
