Hillary screwed up
Edited on Fri May-23-08 10:53 PM by Bleachers7
There's no simpler way to put it. She was plainly honest and that was an incredibly bad thing. I believe that she believes that something could happen to Obama. Whether it's another Rev. Wright or an RFK doesn't matter. She believes it's possible. The problem is that even thinking that an RFK type situation is possible is somewhat disturbing. It is not a justification to keep her campaign going.

Hillary did say something interesting in that interview. She says that people have been trying to push her out since Iowa and it's "unprecedented." She's wrong about that. There's lots of precedence for candidates that don't meet expectation quitting. First two that come to mind is Gephardt 2004 (IA) or Lieberman 2004 (NH).

Also, assassination is not a problem when it comes to the bylaws of the Democratic Party, or the electoral college. The delegates or the electors respectively can nominate/elect anyone. So if cataclysm is on her mind, there is no practical reason for her to stay in the race. It's covered by rule and law.

I feel somewhat sorry for Hillary and some of her supporters. Hillary is tired. It's incredibly difficult to do what she's doing (and any candidate). It's easy to screw up. Hillary screwed up by being honest. She showed exactly how twisted her thinking is. Her supporters should be saying "give her a break", "she's tired", "she apologized" (though not to Obama). I accept that. I don't accept those that say that people are wrong for being offended. There's a long history of black leaders being assassinated. A long time ago Hillary's supporters were calling Obama supporters cultists. I think we are seeing today who the true cultists are.

Finally, give Hillary a break. She's going away soon. She's proven that she's not ready on day 1. Some people don't understand why Obama's supporters feel the way they do. As an Obama supporter I say in the words of Stewart Scott: Hillary, you don't have to go home, you just have to get out of here.

1. Here is my thought on it.
She was just providing examples of past campaigns that lasted until early summer. It was nothing more than that. She should have used a different example but there was no wrong.

7. Maybe in part, but to use RFK like that did show her mindset that "anything" could happen. Her
campaign people have been saying this for A LOT lately. There was no other reason to invoke that reference. There were other examples of long campaigns. It shows what was in her head, and fatigue sometimes calls those things out of the head. I think it did here. She needs to be forthright and explain this better, and much more sincerely apologize. Do that, and we can move on. She should hold a Press Conference tomorrow early A.M. and clear the air.

10. I half agree.
I think she was providing examples of long campaigns and then of other things that are possible. Either way it's twisted and unnecessary. She doesn't ned to stay in the race for that reason. There are rules to deal with unexpected problems.

11. I'm not saying she should get a break in the race, just on the comment.
Because I don't want to believe that he thinking is so grim that she hope's Obama gets shot. I'd prefer to think she misspoke.

12. I agree.
Her apology was a non-apology. She's blaming people for being offended.

13. I said that it she showed how screwed up her thinking is.
People have this in the back of their minds, but they don't say it. Also, it's no justification to stay in the race.

9. "It's easy to screw up. Hillary screwed up by being honest. She showed exactly how twisted
her thinking is." Very well put.. that's how I see it. She needs to get out of this race and take a long nap.
