Are there any recent polls for Puerto Rico? I know Hillary |
|
is going to win it but I'm wondering if it is going to be a landslide (like West VA and Kentucky) or more like an Ohio or PA win for her? I just read an article in New York Times where some people there were saying there has been an Obama surge lately. They also said Obama is not considered black over there. They consider him mulatto (and more like them). Hmmmmmmmmmm...I know it does not affect the race but the returns should be interesting.........

2. I am in PR now and the islanders usually rally behind |
|
the candidate that promotes statehood, or the candidate that supports the present commonwealth system. Almost an even split.
I do know that the light-skinned Puerto Ricans are prejudiced against their dark-skinned brothers/sisters. They get very serious about their politics here, and party hearty after an election.
Clinton has name recognition here from being around so long, and bc of the PRican community in NYC, which I believe outnumbers the 4-million on-islanders.

7. Puerto Rican- Nationality |
|
:) Obama is considered mulatto in P.R. because he is of mixed race Black/White). There is a misconception among the U.S. Mainland that Puerto Rican is a race. Puerto Rican is a nationality. We are not like the the Italian or Russian. These are homogeneous countries where the people are primarily native of these territories. Puerto Ricans are like any other part of the United States or the new world. It is comprised of a heterogeneous population because the island was settled by people coming from all parts of the world. Before 1492 there were only the Indians living in the island. The largest immigration of Europeans to Puerto Rico originated out of the Canary Islands. What's different about Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico is that we love politics and we have a lot of respect for our black Puerto Ricans brothers. Sorry I got off the original subject but I constantly hear the talking heads on cable TV giving out the wrong history about Puerto Rico and it's people.
