Obama throws Hillary haters under the bus

AGUADILLA, Puerto Rico (Reuters) - Democratic presidential front-runner Barack Obama empathized with rival Hillary Clinton on Saturday for the firestorm she ignited by referring to the 1968 assassination of Robert Kennedy.

"I have learned that when you are campaigning for as many months as Senator Clinton and I have been campaigning, sometimes you get careless in terms of the statements that you make and I think that is what happened here," Obama said in an interview with Radio Isla Puerto Rico during a campaign visit to the Caribbean Island and U.S. territory.

1. And it seems you're too much of an Obama hater to give praise where praise is due
Unless you think her comments deserved a more forceful response from him. If you support your own candidate then you'd have to praise how Obama handled this one. Interesting how instead of acknowledging that, you chose to insult DUers and bring up Reverend Wright. Who's the hater here?

Obama smearing her about WalMart in one of the debates. It was a legitimate response to a pathetic smear by Obama.

The other things you complain about were brought up by either Obama himself ("bitter") or the media (Wright), or both.

I understand that drinking the koolaid causes otherwise perhaps sane people to deliberately ignore/distort the facts, so I suppose that's your excuse.

57. I was referring to Hillary supporters who use those words like daggers in the backs of their
colleagues here, just like you just used "drinking koolaid" to say I am not sane. That is a perfect example of why Obama supporters, and DUers in general who support the Dem nominee, like me, will not drop the RFK assassination thing.

Why should I bother treating you with respect since you have such a low opinion of me? I have always done so, even when I saw posts by you that were, to me, ridiculous and worthy of ridicule.

59. You should have worded it better.
Edited on Sun May-25-08 10:41 AM by Seabiscuit
Just like Hillary should have worded her RFK remark better. Or not mentioned it at all.

So now it appears you're really saying that you're determined to continue to smear Hillary by imputing all kinds of nasty, inappropriate and bizarre meanings into her RFK remark (e.g. some Obamanoids go so far as to claim she was making a death threat against Obama) simply because some of her supporters on DU have repeated the truth about Obama's associations with Rezko and Wright and his ugly remarks about rural whites being "bitter", etc.

Kind of a Truman-in-reverse strategy: you're declaring that the more they tell the truth about Obama, the more you'll lie about Hillary.

How sad. It makes you appear both childish and irrational.

Shame on you.

When you declare that you're not going to let the utterly insignificant RFK crapola (which has gone way over the top on this forum) drop simply because you're angry at Clinton supporters for having talked about legitimate issues such as Rezko, "bitter" and Wright, you are being nasty, childish and irrational.

Those issues surrounding Obama are real issues deserving of discussion. The RFK flap is a complete non-issue and even Obama himself has declared people should stop trying to make something of it that isn't there. Pretending there is some equivalence there where there is none and that you're just doing some tit-for-tat is indicative of either a delusional state of mind or moral decrepitude or intellectual dishonesty. Take your pick.

If anyone owes anyone an apology, you owe all of DU an apology for that declaration of yours.

14. Senator Obama has shown a lot more class then his supporters.
Should he be elected President, he would best serve the country by turning his back on the lunatics who have joined the Right Wing in the Clinton hate-fest.

Obama recognizes that if he is to be an effective president he will have to rely on gifted members of this party including Hillary and her supporters. The loud, reactionary bomb throwers will have to be kicked to the curb in deference to more level headed and mature, "traditional" democrats.

Sorry Obamaniacs. When the Primary is over, your usefulness will have drawn to an end. It will be time for the grown-ups to take over.

Thanks for your service and don't forget to vote in November.

34. Yeah, right.
I am pretty sure that the "gifted" members of the party win elections. If you haven't caught on yet, there is a new "tradition" forming. It has something to do with no longer being doormats and apologists for republicans. What the Clinton supporters here do not seem to have gotten yet is that "change" is more than simply running the republicans out of Washington. As Ghandi said and Barack has quoted "be the change you seek". This applies to the party as a whole.

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.

Obama's camp immediately fired back.

"Sen. Clinton's statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign," Obama campaign spokesman said in a statement.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/05/23/1058940.aspx

"Clinton made her comments at a meeting with the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader's editorial board while campaigning in South Dakota, where she complained that, 'People have been trying to push me out of this ever since Iowa.'"

Obama spokesman Bill Burton responded to Clinton's remarks. "Senator Clinton's statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign."
