Maureen Dowd: McCain doesn't like Obama, sees him as "the punk who hasn't bled"
Dowd: 'Mccain really doesn't like Obama'

David Edwards

Published: Sunday May 25, 2008

http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Dowd_Mccain_really_doesnt_like_Obama_0525.html

New York Times Columnist Maureen Dowd appeared on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday morning. Dowd reviewed a video clip of John McCain talking about Barack Obama's level of experience and concluded that McCain does not like Obama.

At a campaign stop last week, McCain had joked about Obama's experience. "For a young man with very little experience, he's done very well. So I appreciate with his very, very great lack of experience and knowledge of the issues, he's been very successful," joked McCain.

Dowd observed that McCain's mocking tone showed his distaste for Obama.

Dowd said, "I think we learned something very interesting in this exchange. For one thing, McCain really doesn't like Obama and he thinks that he's the punk who hasn't bled, as McCain people like to say it. And doesn't deserve to be in this arena.

2. I think this is great for Obama...
...it's not going to take much to get McCain's temper up and I bet Obama is already planning little ways to do it.

McCain weill be easily antagonized on this subject alone - I'll be waiting for the explosion.

6. Obama's half black and we all know that McCain suffers from racial
problems. His words and voting record speaks for itself.

3. Let the old man take his best shot.
My money says he won't lay a glove on O.

McCain and the Repubs have been running against lackluster D opponents for so long, they're not going to know what hit them.

McCain might be older than Methuselah, but even if he brings his 'A' game he's gonna get his ass whupped by 'the punk.'

7. Well, neither had Bush, Johnny
unless you're referring to the blood that ran down his nose from too much coke. That didn't stop you from licking his ass for the past eight years even after he slandered you in 2000. If bleeding is what it takes to find your kind of courage, then I think I'll stay out of it and be all the better off.

15. Chris Matthews once asked McCain about Cheney etc. in the Bush White House who haven't served.
And back then, McCain said then he respected their decision not to serve in the military, everyone has a right to make that choice, etc.

So I'm waiting for someone interviewing McCain to ask him why he gave Cheney and Bush a pass for never fighting in Vietnam, yet he castigates Obama, whose only opportunity for battle, considering his age, was Grenada.

8. I think that's true

McCain sees Obama as a punk who hasn't bled, and Obama sees McCain as a Mcsellout. I think that Obama respects McCain's military service, but other than that, I don't think that him and Obama really respect each other that much (aside from disliking each other). Who was it this morning on one of the shows that said McCain didn't even go after Bush/Cheney in 2000 for their lack of military service, even when they were calling him a mental patient with a druggie wife who had a black baby with a prostitute. This Fall's gonna be fun.

also, like Rachel Maddow, Chuck Todd, and many others have pointed out...McCain sees himself as the "reformer". He loves having that image. But Obama has claimed the change mantal now, while McCain has such bad cred with conservatives that he has to pander to them. Notice how people like Mike Murphy and Karl Rove are now saying that McCain needs to brand himself as the reformer this Fall? Good luck with that one, people.

10. Donning my tinfoil hat...
in McCain's eyes, Obama wasn't supposed to "happen".

He probably thought, as did HRC and this regime's repuke, that it would be HRC who he would be running against..not Obama. So their nice little plan of using HRC's baggage in November for a repuke win is not going as planned.
There was a conversation not long ago here on DU that McCain was promised a 2008 run for the WH by chimp and his cronies a few years back if he would back down. Sounded good, plan was going as scheduled...oops..waddya mean HRC is NOT going to be who McCain is running against? Waddya mean Obama has rallied the nation's Dems????
Wonder what colorful language McLame is using behind closed doors nowadays???

17. McCain and Obama
had a tussle in the Senate over ethics reform. McCain wanted to take it slow and Obama wanted something now. Obama out foxxed the old man on the issue and McCain has been pissed about it ever since.

McCain feeled to realize just because Obama was a freshman Senator doesn't mean he hasn't played the game before.

Note to lurking repugs, please don't invoke military service as a litmus test for President when you people elected a military deserter and a VP with 5 deferments.

22. Looking forward to him blowing up as the race progresses.
This guy is just going to lose it as this race goes on. Just as I believe Bill and Hillary are livid at the fact that they're losing to this kid, leading to an unfortunate loosening of rhetoric from them -- McCain is going to go bonkers when he sees young Barack kicking his ass.

23. Obama's record shows support of community-building.
McCain's record shows the absence of communty-building and support for policies which make community-building far more difficult.

Sacrifice comes in many forms, Senator McCain. Update your file.

24. Furthermore, McCain's "experience" makes him unfit for political office,
let alone dog catcher.

His "hasn't bled enough" statement supports my belief that McCain is batshit insane.

25. Hey Swamp Rat. Frightening image there of Farmer McGregor.
"Next time that damn rabbit comes into my garden, I'll NUKE the little bastard!"

McCain is kind of a nervous gamble because he does seem both uninformed and volatile all at once. Never a good combo. You expect that in a 2-year old, but then McCain is a bit older. He doesn't even behave like an adult, exactly, let alone a president.
