Question: If Obama becomes the presumptive nominee and names a VP pick... |
|
would THAT person become the likely nominee in the event of his demise?

1. I think it's totally up to the delegates at the convention. |

4. Would those delegates pledged to Obama be, in any way, obliged... |

5. I'm sorry...I'm a Cold War child and I tend to think about the "unthinkable".... |
|
and if Obama dies in the next few weeks, I see very bad things happening to the Democratic Party and to this nation.

7. Are people speculating that something... |
|
...bad might happen to Obama in the next few weeks?
I saw Obama in Des Moines last week. The security was unbelievable. I saw Kerry when he came to Iowa for a big rally, right before the 04 election. They had us walk through a security area, but the securty was no big thing.
When I saw Obama, we all had to go through metal detectors and they searched every bag and looked everyone up and down. There was security everywhere--on the ground, on the rooftops, mingling among the crowd. It was scary seeing all of that security.

I don't for a minute believe Hillary or anyone connected with Hillary is planning an assassination.
BUT...
It's crystal clear that the Karl Roves and the Rush Limbaughs of this world DESPERATELY want Hillary as the Dem nominee. And I'm thinking that the next few weeks...before Obama is OFFICIALLY the presumptive nominee and before he picks a VP pick, is the period of maximal danger.
And Hillary's bonehead comments may well have given these ghouls cover.

I think it's always in the back of our minds. Clintons comments and this critical period--give us reason for additional worry.

12. I don't mean to be a nervous nellie... |
|
...but when I saw your message, I imagined what would happen if something did happen to Obama. The Progressives would be unified in outrage, grief, despair and anger. We would know that someone "inside" did this. I imagine our emotions, demands for answers and protests could be construed by some as a "national emergency."
Yikes.
It's sad to think that way...or to even contemplate such horror, but given the times we live in, in this country--it seems as though the thugs are capable of anything.

I don't think so. I think they have to be elected first.

15. Depends on when (before/after the convention) and what the delegates decide I think |
|
If it's before the convention then Obama's delegates would probably decide. I'd imagine if such a thing happened it would become a battle between Hillary and Obama's VP pick.
If it happened after the convention though, then I don't know. The delegates would have decided the ticket already, so what would they do, hold another convention? Let party bosses quickly decide what to do (since you can't just hold another primary in such a short amount of time), pretend they're already president and let the VP pick a new VP to be their VP while the original VP is at the top of the ticket?
