Florida Poll

Quinnipac University Poll-No Link 8-5 to 8-10

Kerry 47%

Bush 41%

Na(d)ir 4%

on edit- Florida is a must win state for Bush....I doubt even a Republican strategist would tell you he can come up with a winning Electoral College scenario without Florida...

right before the all-touchscreen election in GA.

Georgia Senate

http://www.coxnews.com/newsservice/stories/2002/1107-POLL.html
Pollsters may have goofed in not picking up the Republican surge in Georgia, however, some pollsters said. In the Senate race, for instance, Republican Rep. Saxby Chambliss defeated incumbent Democratic Sen. Max Cleland by a margin of 53 to 46 percent. The Hotline, a political news service, recalled a series of polls Wednesday showing that Chambliss had been ahead in none of them. The closest was the most recent Zogby International poll that had showed Cleland leading 46 to 44 percent, within the plus or minus 4 point margin of error.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/2002-11-03-state-polls-usat_x.htm
In Georgia, an Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll shows Democratic Sen. Max Cleland with a 49%-to-44% lead over Republican Rep. Saxby Chambliss.

Final Result
53 to 46 percent Chambliss

HOW ACCURATE?
Polls had Cleland winning by 2 and 5 points, he lost by 7

POST POLL SWING:
9 to 12 points towards Republican Party

14. If an incumbent is below 50%, they are in trouble because undecideds break
against them. However, I also think there might have been some fraud because Barnes lost by nearly the same margin and he was expected to win easily.

There were polls released near the end that showed the race a pickem....

The polls in GA were erratic... Nobody picked Perdue to beat Roy Barnes....

25. But, but, but, I could use the news that Kerry is ahead to sow doubt!

Why focus on the positive, when there are so many potential and imaginary negatives to focus on?

Any time a poll shows Kerry is ahead, or there is any other good news,
it is extremely important for everyone's enthusiasm to be dampened by dire predictions of an October surprise, a stolen election, or the imposition of martial law.

The Pollsters Nailed Florida In 00
They called it a pickem...

And that's what it was....

A race close enough to steal....

The Florida race was like the proverbial football game that's decided on a bad call... When the Bears pasted the Pats in the 85 Super Bowl 46-10 no bad call was going to change the outcome....

3. Good news, but I don't get much out of these polls
They're a good ballpark, but it's hard to tell what's really going on until much later on, after the GOP convention and the resettling of things. Plus the whole south of Iraq may be breaking away as we speak.

for your optimism. I was just thinking today about the incredible pessimism that pervades DU, and most progressive sites, most of the time. Even good news is simply construed as a harbinger of bad--a chance for the right to steal from us.

Kerry's up in the polls, the attacks are mostly rolling off him, Bush looks worse by the day, the upcoming Repub convention has all the makings of a caustic fundamentalist/corporatist phony-fest--let's work hard to bring it home come November, and take nothing for granted. But let's also acknowledge that maybe, just maybe, the Force is guiding our torpedoes right into the Death Star's guts.

Faith is not just for the fundamentalists. Let's have some (though not a blinding, unhealthy dose) in ourselves, our country, our candidate.

AND... Let's not forget about the debates, which could be the KO punch if Kerry goes for the jugular.

28. We're Not Negative, Merely Cautious
We had actually moved up to cautiously optimistic after the Convention,
but then the "terra alerts" took the wind out of the Dems' sails,
so we're back to "cautious" again.

I'll be optimistic when the Bushes (all of them except the kids),
Cheney, and the whole PNAC gang are safely locked up in:

15. Um...there's something called the GOP CONVENTION in a few weeks
The fat lady may be warming up but she sure as HELL hasn't sung a note.

Bush*, the Dim-Son that he is, WILL get a convention bounce that will make this race mighty close.

Don't kid yourself, it's not over yet.

I think it's too premature for the fat lady to start singing. THere is a lot of time between now and election day. We all have to remain vigilant. When she does sing, her song will be the sweetest music I have ever heard.
