The party I thought I knew ceased to exist the moment, the minute and the second they allowed the first most qualified female presidential candidate in our nation's history to be attacked, destroyed, and ripped apart, which reached a tipping point this weekend. As of 24 May 2008 0930hrs, I no longer belong to the Democratic Party. I will no longer be affiliated with any group or group(s), person or person(s), that would allow a party member to be falsely accused of allegations that bears no relevance or has no relationship to the situation at hand. I will not be part of a party that utilizes character assassination to achieve a goal. I will not quietly sit by and watch the destruction of my chosen candidate. I will not support, vote, or show any loyalty to those who sit quietly aside and allow this to be played out in the court of public opinion. The Party I once knew I know no longer. Today I turn my back on the Democratic Party, because by allowing the falsehoods against Hillary Clinton to be embellished as they have the Democratic Party has turned its back on me.

What the candidate, Hillary Clinton, has ever believed or stood for, has been messed up and over in this prmary. It is totally true. She is an intelligent, capable, and to all eyes, responsible person, and person who could be a good president, and a very probably great senator, because she is a true progressive, and she will fight for the people. She would have been great, excellent, the best ever--I even know that, and if she gets the nom, I'll vote for her--dig it? Because of the "D" that has always been after her name. And a candidate should be in control of the message, because the message is all the candidate has going in. That's all I want to say. If she has been mischaracterized and messed over, it was her job to say why and how. Her defense shouldn't be through surrogates readingthe entrails of her by-now slaughtered campaign sacred cow--it should have been her up-front quest. Why did Obama get the momentum on her? Why, if she rocked the debates, could she not have put him away? Why, did he get Super Tuesday right, and leave her in scrimage-mode? When she should have been coasting to victory?

Message! Obama is a message guy--he frames, he speaks, he even chooses his interlocutors so as to be on-message. Where he is slammed--he responds. Where he is challenged, he ripostes. Where he has a point to make--he will deliver a gold-star speech--totally well-spoken. Get this--he laid out what his weaknesses already were, and was ready. She didn't get she'd have any--vs. anyone as off-the-radar as him. This is why wackiness ensued.

As to racism--does anybody doubt that his campaign considered that the foremost threat? That if any pattern developed using even subtle racism--he'd have no choice but to attack? That it was a sure topic from the word "Go" since he has no face but his own to run with? Anyone who wanted to address this--bring this thing in--ran the risk if being slammed--and they should. That's right. They should. Why? Because race should not matter. It is a principle. It is a tenent. Educated progressives believe it. So why the memo the Hillary-side brandishes as evidence of a smear?

Because the pattern shouldn't ever have even been outlined. Racism tolerated is near as bad as racism defended. Because it was a time-bomb, and never should have been in a reasonable world. Because of assassination, and calumny. Because of spite against the reality of real progressive thought--we are all the same. Some are not more so. By virtue of a pattern erupting--what else could anyone do but defend against it--the worst thing, the would-be fatal thing?

Was Hillary called out as a woman, and simply Bill's wife? I don't think so, and though I now admit I'm on the Obama side, and as anyone could guess, I'm female, I don't think that was her weakness. Her weakness bcame her weak campaign. Bosnia. Ireland. Her inability to harness the people who went off-message (especially Bill, who I will allow was going balls-out for his *wife*, his soul mate, and never really intended to go too far--). Tuzla. As far as I know.

The impression may not have been intentional work on her side--but she never defended herself the right way. If a slur fell from the right on her opponent, she didn't defend. Obama has tried to meet her campaign b.s. with civility--he has taken with grace the RFK comment, and not make a thing out of it it needn't be.He has turned to mostly attack McCain and Bush-as it should be. As it is--the Democratic Party is still very much alive for me--and Obama is one of its stars. I have the greatest hopes for what Hillary can and will do in future--but for now, I embrace the Obama campaign. This is a Democracy--there is nothing but "the court of public opinion". If anyone was mislead, they can make up the shortfall by continued learning. I have trusted Obama and his message because it seems true to me. It has not been a failing of the party that he's been accepted--but a sign of our strength--we know he is young,African-American, and peddles hope. But we wager on delivery--and if he can't alone--well screw that--



We can--united. With what he says. United. We. The Democratic Party. And he is not alone. If someone else turns their back, nonetheless, I'll watch Barack's back, because my wager is he'll have mine, as a citizen, a voter, a worker, a person. He's a hope-peddlar, and I've inhaled.

Senator Clinton can chose , she has the staff,it's possible--whether she is pilloried or not,byfinding the message and having the courage to give it. It sounds like: Unity. Reconciliation. It sounds like not attacking. It would sound like her true voice, and the one I admire. A staunch supporter of the party. A strong progressive voice. A clear-seer who knows who the VRWC is, and doesn't like'em. I want her back home with us loser-progressives. Recognizing she isn't too good for us, and that Drudge and Murdoch aren't realfriends. And supporting our nominee.

It was her own decisions that sank her campaign. Did Obama force her to hire Mark Penn? Solis? Did Obama force HRC not to bother with a ground game in caucus states? Did Obama force Harold Ickes to vote to remove all the delegates from FL and MI? Did Obama force Penn to be ignorant of the Texas primary/caucus system? Did Obama force the HRC campaign to concentrate on narrow victories in large states and give up huge losses in smaller "flyover" states?
