Ferraro threatens to vote McCain if Obama's the nominee
Geraldine Ferraro, the only woman to run on a major party presidential ticket and a supporter of Hillary Clinton, has accused Barack Obama of conducting a "terribly sexist" campaign.

Miss Ferraro, the losing Democratic candidate for vice-president in 1984, said that she might abandon her lifelong party loyalties and vote for the Republican John McCain if Mr Obama is confirmed as the nominee.

"Should I ratify how the Obama campaign has been run by voting for him? I am going to have to think very hard about that," she said.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/2022398/US-Elections-Barack-Obama-has-lost-women-%27with-sexist-campaign%27.html

Jeez, this idiot makes H.W.'s choice of Dan Quayle as running mate look genius! When will this horrible person just go away?

Geraldine Ferraro is plain batshit crazy.

84. You are exactly right
that is what it is.. it is about her.. not Hillary.. because she does nothing but bring down the skies on Senator Clinton every time she speaks.. The one person who has NOT run a sexist campaign has been Senator Obama..and Ms. Ferraro, takes all her anger out on Senator Obama.. even when she could not understand how the things she said, were so hurtful.. she at the very same time, is accusing Senator Obama of doing the very things she did..and cannot back down from.

I listened to a discussion last week on NPR between and Emilys List rep, and a NARAL rep.. and they took calls (the subject being how women in the democratic party were voting)..this little lady calls in and from her voice, sounded like a grandma.. but she stated she could never vote for Senator Obama because of the sexism she perceived towards Senator Clinton.. and when it was pointed out to her.. and she agreed.. that this was the media, and not Senator Obama.. she still stated she would not vote for Senator Obama..it absolutely made no sense.

I mean why do you think she has "lost her marbles", because she won't automatically checkmark Obamas name if he wins?
I dont blame her since she has every right after all to consider voting for McCain or she might decide to abstain, after all there is no law saying you must vote for whatever candidate the party you are a member of puts up is there?

21. What?
Do you have a reading disorder? Here is what the article says:

Miss Ferraro, the losing Democratic candidate for vice-president in 1984, said that she might abandon her lifelong party loyalties and vote for the Republican John McCain if Mr Obama is confirmed as the nominee.

"Should I ratify how the Obama campaign has been run by voting for him? I am going to have to think very hard about that," she said.

Please explain to me how that is different from the subject line of the OP.

She did say she won't be an automatic Obama vote if he is the nominee, and in that she seems to be reflecting the sentiments of many of Hillary's supporters. I'm not happy about it, but it is what it is.

Our loyalties to the candidates divide us now. I hope our passion for the issues can unite us after we've hammered all of this out. A McCain presidency truly terrifies me.

9. Here's Geraldine Ferraro's theme song
Viva La Vida by Coldplay:

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sweep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of sand, pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword, and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh, who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword, and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword, and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Edited on Mon May-26-08 10:41 PM by still_one
NARL gives him almost a ZERO

I am sorry but if these supporters of Hillary believe they represent women's rights by such threats or comments, then they are their own worse enemies

I am sure she is upset because she was hit hard by saying "Obama wouldn't be where he was if he wasn't black".

I believe such comments from people like Ms. Ferraro put the women's cause back decades

We don't need the republicans to destroy us, we will do it to ourselves

88. Actually that is backwards
in the last few exit polls from Ohio, Pa, etc, the voters who (and I am sure a number of them are the chaos voters trying to impact our primary) said they voted Senator Clinton also said they would not vote for Senator Obama.. Senator Obama supporters on the other hand were much more inclined to vote who ever headed the ticket.

It was at that point, that I realized, it is a very good campaign strategy to have your people take the exit polls.. (I always refuse those things) and have them say just that..because it would be a tool to influence the super delegates..those sitting on the side lines might think..hmmm at least we would lose less of Senator Obamas supporters.

But again that is when I realized what a wonderful campaign strategy it was ... ;)

38. You support Hillary for the wrong reason if her losing would make you go to McCain
Ask almost any political expert, and they'll say that Obama and Clinton are nearly identical on the issues, with a few minor differences (despite how their supporters try to argue about one having a superior health care plan compared to the other, etc).

While Obama is generally viewed as inexperienced, especially compared to McCain, it's just plain delusional to think that Clinton wouldn't look inexperienced against McCain's record, and the GOP would have campaigned that way against her, insisting she did nothing in the White House, and was just a senator for a few years.

McCain however has a ton of differences between Hillary and Obama on the issues. If anyone really thinks they love just one of them, but would prefer McCain over the other, then they're just voting for Obama/Hillary for stupid reasons that probably won't make a difference in how good or bad of a president they'd both be (like being pretty, or being a woman, or being black, or reminding people of themselves, etc, common silly reasons that determine votes for a lot of people unfortunately).

As much as some of the things Hillary and her supporters have said/done that have pissed me off during the campaign I would vote for her in a heartbeat over McCain or any other neo-con.

Write the OP, Geraldine Ferraro.

Then we can finally prove you are certainly certifiably insane.

61. I agree. There are some Hillary supporters who won't vote for Obama...
and will even do a revenge-vote for McCain.

These are probably the same Hillary supporters who are still making excuses for her, including making excuses (or worse, attacking those criticizing Hillary) for her use of assassination as a campaign tool.

I think Obama will more easily beat McCain in the GE, now that Bob Barr is the Libertarian candidate. Barr will draw off a lot of GOP voters who are pissed off/horrified at the direction Bush and the neocons have taken the Republican Party.

Bob Barr's old-school Goldwater Republican approach will be just what these GOP voters need to hear.

So if we lose some of the Democrats to McCain, I don't think it's a big worry because far more GOP voters will be lost to Bob Barr from the GOP.

I am voting who ever heads up the ticket.. not their supporters or the media.. and the GOP has its own die hard supporters who will never vote Senator McCain

43. Someone tell me what is wrong with this woman - I have seen no sign of any sexism
on the part of Obama or the Obama campaign - NONE! No, the Annie Oakley reference does not qualify as sexism. Perhaps some of his followers have been sexist - but I haven't seen much of anything that really qualifies as sexism. Hillary is getting criticized not for her gender but for her incredibly stupid statements and her poorly run campaign. BTW, I'm a woman and I think I know a thing or two about sexism -- I was in the feminist movement that came out of the New Left in the 60s.

I have to admit that this recent charge of sexism makes me ashamed -- I reserve that charge for the real thing not these 'if you look real hard and squint your eyes' examples of sexism. It is not a word or charge that I want to see trivialized!

51. The hell with Ferraro
The hell with ANY "Democrat" voting for McCain, no matter how many problems they have had (many justified, no doubt) with Obama's campaign. However, there is NO justification whatsoever to vote for McCain, under any circumstances. I can go on for pages about my own objections to Obama, but they are impractical and pointless in lieu of the Big Picture. Defeat McCain. That's the objective. Any so-called "Democrat" who doesn't get that (and any Obama supporter who doesn't get that 99% of Clinton's supporters DO get it) can kiss George Bush on his slobbering chimpy lips.

64. Geraldine Lieberman
Ferraro and Lieberman both seem to figure "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." John Edwards doesn't.
The similarity between Ferraro and Lieberman is not just coincidental. Identity politics was the big story of both selections for VP. And they view their loyalty to their identity group more than to their party, so when they don't get exactly what they want, it's them against the world, and screw the party that gave them so much. Suggestion to Obama: pick the best VP candidate, not the one with the right race, gender, ethnicity, etc.

71. Apparently, according to Ferraro and some other Hillary supporters,
looking in her direction, saying her name in a speech or asking questions about her policies is all sexist. I will agree some in the media have been sexist, but some in the media have also been racist. In fact, some in the media have been racist and threatening. Ferraro perpetuates the weak female myth by her continual whining.

Perhaps she's a Bush Lover.

• His "failure", Miss Ferraro claims, to speak out against other sexist acts such as lewd T-shirts, the men who shouted "Iron my shirt!" at Mrs Clinton and jibes about her "cackle".

And tell me HOW Hillary spoke out about the attacks Barack received for his "bitter comment" or Rev. Wright. I don't recall Hillary speaking out against this trash, instead she used it against Barack.

Not all of them but some and they can be just as shrill and irrational as the others.
Oh and before you try to brush it off, no I am not a diehard Hillary supporter, I voted for edwards but in the general election come Nov. I will probably vote for whatever democrat wins as I think 4 more years of Bush policies with McCain is 4 more years to long.
I just hope whichever democrat wins does a good job and can get us out of this pit the republicans dug us into.

and am not real proud of the hate fest.

Edwards dropped out before I could vote for him. I voted Obama. I wanted Kucinich.

Hillary is no Democrat. She was born a Republican and has pushed Republican policies. If she is the nominee I would reluctantly vote for her because I think she would appoint at least middle of the road judges as opposed to far right nutcases.

93. I wanted Richardson, voted Obama. Kucinich or Edwards are way too progressive for
Americans, Gilligan, which is sad. If somehow Hillary obtains the nomination or VP slot I will still vote for her. Even as a centrist she's clearly not as crazy as McCain.

It is interesting to see the fouls of "sexism" being called when I actually see Hillary's run as proof that we women are getting somewhere. Hillary is up there running a campaign as nasty as any before her. So she is definitely competing on a level playing field. What her supporters fail to see is that Obama ran a smarter campaign by appealing to our dreams as opposed to sliding into that immediate negativity.

If Obama is the nominee it will be interesting to see if Clinton can pull her supporters back into the party, or if she guides them to vote for McCain. That will be very telling.
