I will donate a star to someone who pleads the best case.

This is coming from Dubya's economic stimulus check. What a better return on my investment.

4. thanks, and I also bought 100.00 worth of forever stamps the day
before they raised by a penny. I figure by the time they are 50 cents, probably next year, I will have made an 8 percent return from the government once again....

Now, who wants that star?

24. well, there kinda is...for now...the old pumps will only
let you set the price to 4.00 so if a station hasn't switched to the digital kind, then they can only charge 4 bucks....

BTW, I see you are in Germany. What is gas there?

26. Ha! Almost $9USD a gallon (3.7 liters in a US gal)
BUT, we have tons of public transportation and EVERYONE rides a bike, stores are within walking distance.

The US is SO screwed. Sad.

2. Someone just gave me one...

...and it was my second. I've wanted to thank these folks but, of course, DU doesn't disclose who gave them to you.

When you find the person to give a star to, let 'em know... I'm sure they'd like to thank you for it.

To the two people who did that for me, thank you whoever you are. :)

8. You should send him a nice thank you note -
A real one, on real nice paper, so it'll get as far up the chain as possible.....

Some secretary might get a kick out of it and read it to him...

Don't use any big words, though....

10. Well
I could use a star.

I've spent the past 9 months trying to recover financially from 2 terms of national service (Americorps) working with struggling kids in our local public schools and trying to build support for literacy in the community. Good work and deeply rewarding, but the stipend...Ouch. I think I personally cleared eight grand last year, and then owed the IRS. Ugh.

So, yeah, I've moved out of the food bank phase (mostly) but I'm not yet at the donating to DU stage.

I'd love a star.

and yes, thank you for your selfless and payless work...you will never know what child has listened to you, either. I'm sure many have. And, your rewards will come back to you in your heart if not in your pocketbook.

One of the greatest joys in my service was working with kids, deeply troubled kids, and being the one adult, sometimes the only adult in their lives, that gave them my undivided attention and support every day, and then seeing them change over the course of a couple of years and become real learners. Proud of themselves, you know?

I've already been rewarded.

And thanks again. You've really made me feel good.

15. It really makes me sad that those who devote themselves
to helping others (YOU!) aren't compensated fairly.

Now, you can go out and get a piece (or several) of Fran's Handmade Chocolate. I just read that's one of Obama's favorite things to have on hand, and since you're in Seattle...

Thanks for your selfless work.

19. Oh, gosh, now I'm really blushing.
Thanks, gately. Truly, the work itself and the kids made a huge impact on me. I wish more people could experience what I have, but I know that it's a real hardship.

I have to confess that I've never actually tried Fran's chocolates, and I've lived here for 15 years! I did send a couple of pieces to my moms for Mothers' Day, though. They loved them.

Thanks for your appreciation. There's not a lot of glamor in community service.

28. Yes -my last job there
i lived in Seattle and worked in Redmond. I spent most of my day either on the bridge, or waiting to get on to it!

Lived there all my life until I moved about 5 years ago with my company. It's 'home' and I'm homesick. So definitely going back as soon as I can swing it. :hi:
